I am getting a reticle change on a Conquest scope.

I am either going with the Rapid Z varmint or Mil-Dot.

What I am wondering is how well the varmint reticle has calibrated for your loads and what loads/velocities folks have been using with this reticle and how well everyone likes them.

I have the Rapid-Z Varmint on my coyote rifle and love it. Same deal than your Rapid-Z 1000 but graduated only to 600m therefore no need for a 20 MOA base/rings.

I actually can't use the 1000 with my load, the Varmint does however seem to calibrate on the Zeiss website, but I do like mil-dots in my other Zeiss scopes so I am kinda stuck on which to choose.

Ive got a 6.5-20x50 Conquest with Rapid Z Varmint on my VSSF II .204 and its bang on on all hash marks. I like the Rapid Z reticle so much I just bought another from Clay today in a 3.5-10x44 Rapid z600 for my Vanguard .243 Coyote smoker.

It is in a 25-06 loaded to 3150 ft/sec with 115gr VLD's

I couldn't for the life of me get that calculator (for the 1000)to work for that cartridge. The 800,600 and varmint will calibrate for that load.

The 1000 is designed for the .308 and the Varmint is designed for lighter cartridges like the 22-250, 223, etc. The RZ800 is likely your best fit. The Rapid Z is somewhat cartridge specific.

If you plug in your zero for 450 yards it will work, hash marks will no be bang on but close and get you out to 1000 yards with that load. Have you also tried reducing the charge on your load or is it a really good load?

That is the load, don't really wanna mess with it.I'll go plug in the numbers you tried and see what happens.

In fact Do Not use a canted base or rings. I have a few of these scopes (really like them) with the RapidZ varmint and 1000 reticle. My 5R milspec has a 1000 reticle and I only have two clicks of down left for the 100 yard/meter crosshair. This is with regular rings no moa base. I wouldn't be able to zero at 100 if I had a canted base or rings.

That is kinda what I am thinking about the turrets , and use mil-dot for windage correction.

I was out of adjustment during load development and was using the 6 mark to get on to paper where you see my horizontal on my load development target.

Turrets are more accurate but nowhere near as fast. The drop downs give you a new crosshair at known distances. The scopes also offer a "range finding" feature. If you're making quick shots this can't be beat. You also have the option of dialing it in if you wish. Although you only have 50 moa with these 1" scopes.

With my 5R, a buddy called out a golf ball sized rock at 300 meters. Using the crosshair labelled "3" I nailed it dead centre, using 168 Federal Gold. That's pretty good and there is no chance of a mistake. This will of course work better with some ammo and rifle combinations than others. For this particular rifle it's a perfect match. Your results may vary.

A guy may need more than 20 MOA on the base it looks like.

No. I wouldn't recommend it with these scopes. The reticle works really well. If you use a 20 moa base you won't be able to use the 100 yard crosshair at 100. I only have 2-4 clicks left on mine for down. Which essentially does the same thing as adding a 20moa base as you now have the full 50moa adjustment and the marked crosshairs.

If you're planning on turret turning a lot then get a different scope. If you want an excellent scope with the Pride Fowler reticle then get the Conquest with the Rapid Z reticle. These scopes are for hunting, varminting and tactical/informal target shooting. They have excellent glass, an etched reticle and excellent repeatability. Also the eye relief is fixed at 3.5". There is no change in eye relief when changing magnification. Great scopes. The only flaw is the 1" tube and lack of adjustment. The reticles fix this for most uses.

I am still below the paper at 100 with my adjustments at the limit and using the 1 mark.

That is why I had to use the 6 mark for load development.

I would love for this reticle to work but I have a feeling I may have issues.

What type of rings, base or rail are you using? Have you tried swapping front and back with the bases or rings? Is there already moa build into them? Simple things I know but it's hard to understand how you could be maxed out with that reticle when the 100 crosshair is pretty high up on the scope. Like I said with mine Im almos maxed out downwards. I'm using two piece bases with Leupold PRW rings on a Remington 5R.

Weaver tactical rings , one piece Weaver base 0MOA.There is the equipment being used in the photo.

I could go Burris Signatures with the offset inserts, but still doesn't help that I can't calibrate with the 1000 reticle.

How far are you looking to shoot? Why not just put a RZ800 on it instead of trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
