A couple of days ago, I found a book in local used book store titled: Matt Eastman’s Guide to Browning Belgium Sporting Firearms 1903-1994. Chapter Four is titled: Fabrique Nationale & Sako Bolt Action Rifles and has 25 long large pages on this subject. Its a large format paperback, approx. 8.5 x 11 in. with 140 thick glossy (heavy) pages. Marked 1st edition and first printing, 1994 but no ISBN. It lists Matt Eastman as the author and the publisher. At the front it also lists the six other books on Browning that Eastman has written and/or published. Not a lot of pictures but a lot of hard information on the various rifles that FN Browning made using Sako barreled actions: serial numbers, dates, barrel twist rates and rare calibers. I think this also may be a rare book.

I also note that Matthew Eastman recently passed away:

Thanks for an enlightening thread first thing in the morning.
Sounds like Mr. Eastman lived a humbling and rewarding life.
Nice to see the generosity he gave back to society.

I will sure keep an eye out for his writings in my future endevours.

Seems to me, that I have a smaller booklet around here some where, written by Matt Eastman about Browning.Perhaps an earlier ,smaller version of the larger book? Not sure.Have to look sometime to see if I can find it.:)

Rob,

Do they talk about the Sako Hi-Power in there ?

Not really. The fact that FN was shipping M-98 actions to Sako at the same time that Sako was sending their own L461 and L579 barreled actions to FN is mentioned...but that is about all. The focus is all on FN Belgian Browning made rifles that used Sako barreled actions.

Although they list a few other (and expensive) books by Matt Eastman, I don't see this particular book on either of those sites.

Dont know if it is Rare, but appears to be a good score in good condition.

I was using the word "rare" to mean uncommon, not occurring very often, and consequently of interest. However, whether or not this translates into "value" is something I don't know. But since I am unable to find any other copy for sale anywhere (and I have tried the standard international used book sources) and given the very high prices being asked for Matt Eastman's other books, I have to assume it has some value.

Nope...that's a different book by the same fellow, Matt Eastman. The cover has the same picture on it but its a different title, "Browning Sporting Arms of Distinction 1902-1992" That is, if this is the same one you are talking about: (http://www.biblio.com/book/browning-sporting-arms-distinction-1903-1992/d/633269220)

The book I have isn't a picture book. Its just hard technical information for collectors, with a few photos.

What did I pay for it? ...definitely less than "four brown ones".

I have a PDF of the Sako chapter that I can send to anyone interested. I just need an email address.

Thanks for your answer, Rob.

There are several editions of this book, with different names and years specified. These are all variations with more or less the same information than the first edition. It always been a hard to find book, and the prices always been all over the place - I doubt they printed tens of thousand of these books.
