Rare depot build K98k restored!

Very impressive!

Do you ever plan to shoot it, or is it just a safe queen?
Thanks!

One of my main goals with my collection is preserving history. As a result, I generally don't shoot my matching originals or something really rare like this. I know the chances of something breaking is slim but I could never forgive myself if the stock cracked or something like that.

I do have lots of other mausers that I shoot regularly.

I can understand your point.

Still, I know I'd just have to squeeze off a five or ten shot group at least once.:D

They used to do that at the factory.

I'm glad that there are people like you restoring firearms, rather than butchering them.

Well, I wasn't sure if I should hijack this thread.... but I decided to anyway!! ;)

Figured there wouldn't be much point in making a new post for Depot Built K98's as there probably are not many out there on CGN....

Here is my XX (20th) Military District (Wehrkreis) built K98. The 20th (XX) was located just North of JBMauser's K98 depot build in the West Prussian (Westpruessen) district of Danzig (now Gdansk in Poland).

The receiver is a bcd (Gustloff Werke, Weimar) made in 1941.

Oh... and yes. I am one of "those guys" that likes to "white" the markings on my firearms.... (Don't worry, its just crayon!)

Please excuse the quality of the cell phone pics, I really need to do these with better lighting...

Here is a map of the German Military Districts. Hope this helps some others who may have a Depot build, and want to know more

Really cool Desert Fox!!!!! Is yours all original and matching? There sure aren't very many of these out there.

I know of one other depot build in Canada. It's a XXI like mine and has been sporterized.

It's original... but it sure isn't matching!!

The barreled action matches.... that's about it. Got it about 10 years ago, was just a bunch of parts in a box, the stock, barreled action and all the ancillary parts were absolutely covered in mud, grease, sand and carbon... took me days to clean it up! Plus, there was 1/3 of a cleaning rod broken off inside the cleaning rod channel! That was interesting to get out to say the least...

All in all, I prefer these project guns as they are fun to build, and they have lots of character! It actually turned out really nice, some beautiful blueing left under all that grime! Shoots like a hot damn too!

I must say, I really like the replacement stock you have for yours though! Puts mine to shame! ;)

Prost!
