Hey guys, as the title states, this is a Fabrique Nationale Yugo contract 1924 (not to be confused with the later Yugo built M24 that which was based upon this rifle and FN tooling). The FN 1924 is a Mauser 98 action with an intermediate length receiver. This one is 100% matching - including the stock, and the royal crest is completely intact as well as the royal cartouche on the side of the butt stock. The 'CXC' stamp on the left side rail is the Serbian Cyrillic abbreviation for "Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes", which was the precursor to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The "A" prefix and serif script "FAB. NAT D'Arms de Guerre..." indicates that this was one of the earlier rifles that FN produced. Apparently, 100,000 rifles were manufactured by FN from 1926-28. However, starting in Oct 1928 production moved to Yugoslavia and the markings changed (although the "CXC" remained for 2 more years). The fact that this rifle exists almost completely as-issued is really remarkable considering many were captured by the Nazis and other aggressors, lost or destroyed in battle, or scrubbed and rebarreled into M24/47 configuration. The barrel is in suprisingly good condition with expected wear, but it shined right up after a 1/2 hour of cleaning. Haven't test fired it yet, but will give you an update in the future.

Note the sideways capital "W" in serif stamped on the stock in the picture above - I wonder what that was for??

I saw one of those for sale at a gun show but didnt have the cash. I had cash next show & got to watch somebody else walk out with it exclaiming that it was "A mauser!" to his buddy. Nice rifle.

If you can, repeat your post in Parallaxbillmilsurps.com, (Yugoslav Mauser forum) there is a member there called "nothernug" that could tell you more about your rifle. I'm sure he'd be very interested in it as well!

You can post in the 'Military Mausers' forum on Gunboards too. Northernug hangs his hat there as well, plus there are others that know Yugos and FNs really well.

Nice rifle. I could post my Kingdom of Yugoslavia M24 for comparison.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I checked out those other sites and was impressed with the Yugo knowledge out there. It's a real niche. Nice thing about Yugos is that they are still relatively inexpensive, the quality is there, and there's plenty of variety to go hunting for. It reminds me of how I caught the collecting bug with the SKS a few years ago and at one point had eight of them!

You might want to consider getting Serbian & Yugoslav Mauser Rifles by Branko Bogdanovic

Rumor has it he's coming out with an updated version.
