Well folks I just got a strange scope and figured I'd share. I was given a "Single Point" brand scope by my father in law. It was made in england as far back as the '70's according to my google search. To use it you keep both eyes open and one sees the dot and the other sees the target. Its pretty funky! Pic:

I remember those. And when I was a kid a friend's father had a similar sight on a shotgun for a while, which I think was called a Kwik-Point. I get the same effect shooting with both eyes open using a red dot sight. Only one eye is looking through the sight but your brain makes one image out of the two slightly different views.

They "hit the market" in the mid to later part of the seventies. The one shown is more advanced than the earlier versions, and really they were the forerunners of the Modern Reflex Type sights, designed for quick Target acquisition. Good rugged and simple sight, for quick and fairly close ( come into their own on .22 semi-autos! ) .... David K

Singlepoint

Actually a neat scope, they came out in the late 70's early 80's before the Aimpoints got here they were the first red dots. Used on a limited basis by the Brits on their L1a1 rifle in Northren Ireland also in Malaya, they were used by the U.S. Special Forces as the optic on their XM-177's (CAR-15) when they raided the Son Tay prison camp in North Vietnam in 1970 (Operation Ivory Coast) where they proved extremely effective for low light, close range shooting. A neat piece of kit still effective. I have two myself one with a very small dot for a rifle and another with a much larger dot for a shotgun or SMG.Good find. g2.
