Rare Winchester 1200 police stainless steel?

Hi all,

This is my first post so I hope I’m doing this right. I have a bit of a USA MADE Winchester Defender fetish. I know there is more enthusiast out there that may be able to shine some light on what could be a rare “Canadian POLICE 1200” with a stainless steel barrel, magtube, receiver and trigger group. A polymer forend and a side folding stock with CHOATE TOOL CORP. lettering. I like my stuff original from factory so overpaying for a frankagun is not on the table. I would like to confirm that indeed there was a factory setup. Here is a like for the exact setup found sold at auction in the United States. What do you guys think? Any insight would be appreciated. Im not am expert, but ive owned a few of these over the years

Ive never seen them come from factory with a Choate ( god I hate that name ) stock in any configuration

Local departments probably purchased the stock separately

Once again im not am expert though

I don’t know. My gut tells me a small amount of them were made for Canadian law enforcement’s. I found two that look the same and their serial numbers were off by 160

no it isn't. I have an 870 marine magnum police surplus and it has some type of finish on it. It defenitely isn't stainless steel.

There is a flat stainless steel and a polished chrome Police. Then there is polished chrome marine from what I remember. ( I own several configurations ) Lots of threads on this. As for the marine I don’t think the receiver and trigger gaurd was polished chrome. But the trigger was.

So are these actually stainless (receiver, barrel and bolt) or are they plated/coated?

Would be great for a boat

They are plated/coated. I doubt there is a piece of stainless steel in them. Early guns had some stainless parts but Winchester found the plating procedure actually made them more rust resistant than stainless.

thanks. I figured if they offered something different over a 590 or 870 they would be worth it. I like the Mossberg coating
