Rascal or Cricket?

So with Christmas coming up my 5 year old son has expressed an interest in shooting, often joining me at the range. I take my Marlin semi with me when he is along so he has something to shoot as well (always with direct supervision, my rifle is opened and cased so he has my undivided attention). I have decided that he needs something that fits him better and a youth model .22 fits the bill perfectly. So like I said Christmas is coming and it seems a perfect time to get him his own first firearm. Question is should I get a Savage Rascal or a Cricket? I have no intent to scope it right away as I believe he should learn to shoot open sights first, even though both of these rifles come equipped with sights so should more than suffice. Are there any other options that you would recommend, preferably single shot and I am not looking to spend much over $200 so the Henry lever action is out.

Thanks guys and gals

Rascal. Cocks on bolt action rather than by pulling a cocking thingy. Peep sights. Less than 200 at LeBaron's. 11-1/4" length of pull.
Made in Canada, and great support.

We have a rascal and my 6 and 10 yr olds can use it no problem! The trigger is great, they load it with ease and the bolt is flawless. I can't give you a comparison just that I'm 100% happy with the rascal.

I went with the Rascal for my little guy - he'll be getting it for Xmas as well. I didn't like the extra bolt pull of the Cricket - it isn't a natural shooting technique and I'd rather him be able to focus on safety and proper techniques. I did fire 50 rounds down the Rascal and it was surprisingly accurate and ejected shells well (unlike the reviews of the Henry).
