What are the ideal combination of ROT and velocity for Lee 90476:

A 475gr minie. Also, can velocity be increased by gas checking and to where?

The minie is a hollow base so can't be gas checked ? as to the rest what are you trying to shoot it in?

I think the general rule is that longer bullets want faster rifling.

45's and 50's are around 1 in 66 for round balls and 1 in 48 for maxi's and mini's. the 1 in 48 will work for round balls but you have to load lighter to get accuracy.

As far as what velocities its more a matter of testing to see what works best and what you want to stand behind! In a long heavy musket I've seen some shooters prefer 120 to 150 grains of FF black powder. Rings the gongs nicely!

The 58 cal rifled military muskets were normally 1 in 66 ROT. the shoerter barreled Enfield musketoons and naval rifles were 1 in 48. The folks in the NSSA use the 1 in 66 muskets to hit 4" clay pigeons consistantly at 100yards.
As for gas checking, the hollow base is your gas check. It expand the ball to seal the minnie to the barrel. A gas check added defeats that purpose.

I was looking around but can't find anything specific. There are too many variables in muzzle loading for anything much to be published. I would imagine something between 1400 and 2000fps would be attainable but you would really have to do your own testing I think.

Personally I wouldn't be too concerned with the numbers. Try to work up an accurate load with something in the range of 120 to 150 grains and shoot different distances out to whatever range you are interested in to obtain the trajectories. Would be nice to use a chrony and find the point of diminishing returns and the most consistent loads thou.
