Rate of Twist question

Hi, I have a circa 1988 Remington 700 Varmint Special in .223. It has a 24 inch heavy bull barrel. Does anyone know what the rate of twist was with this model? Thanks very much.

put a tight patch in it, mark the rod and measure to the barrel then push one full revolution and measure again.

Most older Remingtons in .223 are likely to have 1 in 12 twist.

Why wouldn't you just determine the twist of your barrel as MIKPOS stated? Any old time rifleman I ever knew has done this for years.
