Rate of twist Rem 700 SPS Tac vs. Varmint in 308 Winchester

The varmint has a 1:12 twist the Tac has a 1:10
I recall a 308 I once had with a 1:10 twist loved 170 grain match
Any ideas what results might be with that bullet in a 1:12 twist?
 
My remmy with a 1-12 would only shoot up to 178 SMK, but not the best accuracy, it shoot 168 SMK really well, most flat bass bullets up to 180 shoot reasonably well. I used the rifle mostly for targets. I rebarreled it with a 1-10 now it shoots every thing, 208 gr amax shot well. It is better to over twist. I personal would go for the 1-10 unless you only want to shoot light bullets. My 1-12 shot 125 gr Nosler bt really well.
 
I used to have a .308 second-hand 28" Shultz&Larson 1-12 barrel with unknown round count. My favorite bullets were the Hornady 178gr hpbt and the Hornady 190gr hpbt. The lands in it were getting a bit rounded, but the 190's were still giving me 1/2" groups at 100m.
 
I have a 12 inch twist @ 26inch barrel for my 308Win.( 700P barrel/SPS varmint Barrel) and I've had luck with 168's and 185gn. If you go on the Berger website for target bullets, there 185Gn bullets are made and recommended for 12'' twists.

Depends how long you wanna shoot. up to 600 yards the 168's are effective
for over 600yards, get 185's.
150-155's also have long reaching power due to the fps you can shoot them at. I can get them at 2950fps with my 26inch. These do move alot in the winds though

That would be the SPS Tac AAC SD model that has the 1:10 twist. The regular SPS Tac has a 1:12 twist IIRC. I should be getting my AAC SD model tomorrow, fingers crossed. I've been reading on a number of shooting forums that the AAC SD likes 168gr bullets (Sierra Matchking) with H4895 or Varget.
 
The SPS Tac AAC-SD and SPS Tac only differs by the colour of the plastic stock and the threaded barrel. Otherwise, 100% the same.

Both guns have 1-10 twist.
 
Uhmm, you might want to tell that to Remington then...

According to their spec sheet:

SPS Tac - 1:12
SPS Tac AAC SD: 1:10

I can't load the page to confirm, but they must have just changed that because it's been 1:10 since it came out.

Edit: Looks like they just changed it. It states "new" under status. All previous years have 1:10.

The bastards. Could've save me close to $60 on a non AAC version and buy ammo instead. Grrrr.
 
Using a 26" factory varminter sitting in a bedded hs stock. Getting .4 now to .6 average when I am doin my part. Using 178 amax on top of 42.1 gr of varget and with cci primers. Quite happy with the blend. I do have my oal at 2.82. Seemed to make a difference between .6 and .75 average age to sub .5 possible. And I have shot the Berger .210 gr out to 300 with decent results of around MOA surprisingly. Did not buy anymore to see about tunig further with that bit the results were ok...
