Was thinking of a paint job or sending my rifle out to get cerakoted. It’s a savage 111 300 wm. Not much to look at but it is a laser beam. On my never sell list, shot my first buck with it. My buddy has a browning hells canyon with the cerakote paint on it, I was thinking of getting it done too. Mostly for Weather protection. Would rattle can basically do the same job? I would have to touch it up as the paint wore off but it would be cheaper then getting it cerakoted.

Is cerakote worth the money to get done?

In my opinion if aesthetics arent a huge issue then go for the rattle. But id do that to a dedicated hunting rig. Not something id do to a never sell list gun though. In your situation id say keep it original or go for a very non offensive cerekote so it never gets old or ugly looking.

Maybe just spray paint the stock, if you want to change it later on, you could get a Boyd's. Tastes tend to change over time, but being a fairly high volume piece gives you options.

If you think of race cars for comparison, most of them get thrashed and beaten for years until someone has a change of heart and decides it might be worth sinking some money into making it more street friendly, or a cruiser. Not being of particular value means customize it how you see fit and shoot the balls off of it.

I have painted several barrels with Enduracoat which is a two part epoxy they will make up (any color) in a rattle can for less than $40.00. I rough up the barrel with sandpaper, degrease with soap & water ... activate the rattle can and spray on light coats. One can will do a dozen barrels but the can becomes unusable after 24 hours.

As a never sell rifle that you have sentimental attachment to, cerakote it and keep it protected and good looking for many years to come. You will not regret the investment!

Rattle can looks good when used. Just use a good cleaner first to help adhesion. But that is me ‘cause I like the battle look.
