rattlesanke hunting in canada?

Seen rattlers on the Red Deer river years ago and was surprised as I didn't think they got that north.
There have got to be a lot in Sask given how many there are around the Hat and One-Four.

But leave them alone. They pose very little hazard to anyone thats paying attention and are a real asset to the ecosystem and to farmers.

"It was comming right at me"

I've only seen one rattler.. hit by a car between spence bridege and lytton... Considered getting the head or tail but *squish* not salvagable

a basket of breaded & fried Rattler chunks is one of the finer things in life when combined with an ice cold beer and a waitress that says "y'all" ;)

More people are 'bitten' by the severed head of a dead rattler then living snakes. :)

You have that correct!
Notice in the picture of the one I have mounted on the wall, it has no head. It was professionally done and they won't have anything to do with the head.
I was just about to answer the post of the fellow who was going to get a head on the road, when I saw your post.
A brother and sister in law were parked on the Arizona desert when they saw a rattler lay down in the shade behind the front wheel of their motor home. Brother got in and backed over it. There was a snake skin dealer in town, so he picked up the dead snake and took it to the fellow.
The snake man litterally recoiled back when he saw the snake with the head still on. he gave my brother a severe warning about it and told him to get that thing to hell out of here.
The snake hunters immediately hold the head down, with their forked tool, of a killed snake, cut the head off and burry it, while staying clear of it.

I have seen some so big here in the okanagan crawling accross the road that i would be afraid to run over:eek:
I think snakes are prety cool and should not be hunted.

my friend was up fishing in the elk lake area couple weeks ago and there was a 3 foot rattler in the #### house wrapped up beside the seat on a nudy mag and styrofoam.

didnt see it until he let the door fly shut and the noise of the door made it rattle....none will use that outhouse again LOL

That is truly freaky! I'm not a snake fan to put it mildly.

Found this on the net.

Had a similar experience 20 years ago that gave me the creeps.
My son was on a scooter in the driveway. I looked up at him 30 yards away and saw a 3 foot Copperhead crossing the drive 10 feet in front of him. I hollered stop and he stopped 2 ft short of the snake and didn't move. I dropped a pipe on it then cut it's head off and dug a hole and buried it immediately. I picked up the body with a shovel and tossed it aside in the woods. Freaky part was I went back about 20-30 minutes later and touched the tail with the shovel and the headless body struck and then went limp.
I got spooked by snakes early in life and have never gotten over it. I only kill the poisonous ones though.

And...

Our ancestors in Estonia had a saying that whatever you do, the spirit of the snake doesn't leave it's flesh before the sun sets... dun dun dunnn
