For years now I've doubted that rattling really works, so today I went out with my bow and sat in my stand. After a few minutes I started rattling with a 5x5 whitey rack I cut the tips off of. 5 minutes later after the rattling and some grunting, a 2 spike came in followed by a 4x4. The 4x4 was postering with his back arched and was looking for the source of the sound. He ended up broad side at what I estimated at 35 yards. I drew back my bow and released............bounced off the top of his back just behind his shoulder. There was a big puff of hair and he ran. I thought at first I missed then I decided to climb out of my stand to take a look. No blood, my arrow was clean. I lasered and found that I was off......he was 20 yards out.
All I got out of this was that my yardage estimation is still horrible, rattling works and a nice 4x4 can live another day.
