The gen2 bolt carrier for the lockhart tactical raven was just released today, make sure to grab one if you have a rifle. It's Free but you have to return the gen1 for liability, I'm not sure if they will include a return label, but you have 3 weeks to return it after you receive the gen2. Hopefully, the gen2 carrier is good and we can have a reliable ar15 type rifle.

Some folks in BC have received their Gen2 carriers already!

Observing their pics, the walls of the carrier appear to be twice as thick, a cross brace has been added and problematic squared corners in the carrier have been rounded off.

I have a custom build on a raven, the barrel I had I think the gas port is on the small side, it just engages the BHO consistently with an adjustable gas block almost all the way open. When I switched the BCG it cycled and a no adjustable gas block cycles and engages the BHO. I know the factory built guns come with an adjustable gas block as long as there is a little bit of adjustment left I’m sure they will be fine. But I also have a very light buffer due to the undersized gas port I believe. Not sure what weight the built guns come with as that may make a difference.

Will be interesting to see how many have cycling issue with the new, heavier BCG...

I’ve put just over 200 rounds with the new BCG and it cycled perfectly at 19 clicks on the gas block minus a few mag related failures to feed 😎.

I have one of the earlier versions with the mid length gas system.

Did you have to drill your gas port out to a larger diameter ?

Nope, not at all. From what I’ve seen it’s only some from the most recent batch with the rifle length gas systems that have this issue. Mine is an earlier one with the mid length.

Good to hear. Good luck with your rifle. Hopefully they've worked the bugs out and she runs!

I don't understand why the bolt carrier is skeletonized at all. Keep it simple.

The length of the receiver has to both be different from the AR-15 in order for it to be not an AR-15, and long enough to eventually accommodate the longer BCG of .308/6.5 Creedmore/8.6 mm Blackout when the battle rifle magwell version comes out. In order the keep around thesame weight as an AR-15 bolt carrier, but be long enough to function properly in the lengthened receiver, the BCG was skeletonized. The initial batch took things too far, making it weak to to the point of breakage in the BCG, but this seems to have been corrected with the current version, "knock on wood".

If the bolt is heavier then I'd rather use more gas. Having a skeletonized bolt just makes it more likely to break. As much as I want a Lockhart Raven I'm tired of being a beta tester. I'll wait until they work out all their issues.

The new bolt carrier was released last year. The issues have been worked out and the 5.56 just plain works.

I’ve got 500rnds on mine, many have reported with 5000+ no issues. The 5.56 bolt carrier (gen2) is fine.

A bit of perspective:

AR-15 full circle - 'full auto' carrier with the firing pin shroud intact weights 9.4 oz.
A 'half moon' carrier weighs 8.9oz.

The LR gen 2 skeletonized carrier weighs 9.4 oz.

Question about the gen 1, I'm building a raven waiting on the gen 3 upper. I found and purchased a gen 1 bolt carrier just so I could use it quicker and upgrade the gen 3 bolt carrier later so not worried about the cracking.
My question is I ordered a bootleg bolt kit, and it seems like the firing pin doesn't protrude into the face of the bolt? Is the gen 1 different? I pulled apart my bcg in my ar to compare and everything looks the same. Am I missing something the bolt carrier looks so much longer on the gen 1.
Any help would be great

Hmmmm....Really?

I understood that LT recalled all of the Gen one carriers for those swapping to the newest gen. 2.
The last part sure doesn't sound right. Don't know how to help you, maybe send an email with photos to LT or maybe take it into RDSC and have them look at it.

Sorry here's a picture. Like the raven firing pin sits like 1/2 inch rear ward. The parts are placed roughly how they sit in the bolt carrier

The bolt carrier in the bottom of that photo appears to be for an AR15. They are not compatible with the Raven.
Due to the differences in size/dimension, the Raven uses a proprietary firing pin.
