I was talking to a guy tonight and apparently Ravens will be taken off the protected species list in Sask and will be considered fair game. I like that.:D

Black cats crossing the road in front of you are supposed to be bad luck also.

We have these BIG black birds up here ... I think they're RAVEN's or are they CROWS ... anyway I'm still waiting on the local Renewable Resource Officer to tell me if I can target shoot them ... but my father in-law said it's bad luck and besides when you're outland and see them in the sky, there's usually a kill near by which means wolves or wolverine ... so hmmmm do I target shoot them or not? :D ;)

p.s. my father in-law followed some in the sky this past weekend to find a downed tuktu(caribou) ... followed the tracks and got a HUGE white wolf ... maybe they are good luck?!

Several yrs ago I did a hail claim for a fellow up in the Swan River Valley,MB.
I was chatting with him before I checked his fields and he started telling me about his problems incl a bout of cancer, a recurrence of cancer, and wife leaving him after he was told about the recurrence.
He said what was really bothering him was the noisy ravens in the morning, to a point where he could'nt get enough sleep. He had been musing on a solution and figured what would work would be to set a propane tank out in the field, wire a bunch of meat to it, and then pop it with his rifle when there was a good enough concentration of ravens on it.
I mentioned the native superstition about bad luck after killing a raven, but told him that in his case, it would probably be OK.
