Thanks for the input everyone. I realize replacing the missing parts does not add any real value as she will always be a Russian capture but I couldn't stand looking at the empty holes where the lock screws use to be or the missing cleaning rod so I put in $20 and just got them back. Now I have a sort of transitional Kar98k in that she is in her German configuration but also bears her Russian capture past. Originally, I was thinking of sourcing out parts to replace the ones covered in plum but I soon refrained from it.
I received a new guide as to how to re-finish the stock from a fellow off Gunboards and it does not involve your typical house hold products. One of the products to be used in the re-finishing process is boiled linseed oil.
