So I was at Canadian Tire picking up some sundries for the yard clean-up now the sun has finally arrived...

I always swing by the gun cabinet just to see what they have. My eye was drawn to the two Russian Capture K98k they had in stock. They looked to be fairly typical of the lot I've seen, except the price: $980!!!

Wow! Are they in that stratosphere everywhere?!? Sure makes me glad I picked up my Portuguese Contract K98k when I did!!

I bought a RC K98 from the Leduc crappy tire last fall and the price was $799. I thought it was kinds high then but don't feel so bad now!
It seems everything is way higher this year as compared to last year. I was expecting prices to slowly get higher over the course of a few years and not the drastic jump that they have taken. Why can't our pay cheques take the same kind of increases? Mine went the other way and decreased big time! Lol

I wouldn't pay that much for a piecemeal Mauser. Granted, if they are new imports, the Euro and the Canadian dollarette are miles apart at the moment, so that's a likely explanation. Glad I got my Yugo capture when I did.

Now just wait for everyone to price theirs accordingly in the EE, haha.

Prices seem to be up everywhere, unfortunately. If you ask me, once the boomer generation starts kicking the bucket, we'll see a major correction in prices. There are untold numbers of guns sitting around collecting dust and unused in dad's/grandpa's safe. Just look around the next time you're at a gun show. How many people in attendance are 50/60+?

AFAIK most transactions are done in US$ regardless of source (even China and Russia want greenbacks), so I guess $799 to $980 could be explained by the free-fall of the Canadian peso.

Still, shocked the heck out of me. You can't even find affordable 8mm ammo!

Maybe the gunshows in Pet have that kinda demographic, but the ones out here in the Fraser Valley (because Vancouver and the enlightened boroughs to the West won't allow them) have a surprising number of hipsters with waxed moustaches buying SKS and AR accessories. All those kids who grew up playing Call of Duty are wanting to play with real guns now!

I'm a pensioner thank you; my will is going to say my son can't sell my toys till he is old as sh&t and then perhaps he would appreciates the pieces of history. The only milsurp he likes is my Canadian 1916 BSA SMLE which I got from Martin months ago. Perhaps he thinks the old guns have bad juju.

Funny, I was just thinking about this yesterday, figured I would scroll through and see if anyone else had mentioned. I noticed bullseye london has a couple as well, for $980!! Jesus Christ I bought one under 2 years ago for $700 in pretty good shape, at least the ammo from Czech and Serbia hasn't skyrocketed...yet.

Mosin PU's shot up as wellin the past 6 months, $800 at my local Crappy tire, $930 at bullseye

Old fart here and I have dusted one of those old Mauser off as we speak.*8oo bucks sounds really sweet and I might dust off a few more so my kids aren't going to get to sell it when I croak the bucket. They don't deserve Mausers anyways. They are Grandpa guns ,meant to put big smiles on wrinkled faces.
