May pick up a partial set of these dies for loading a revolver. They are missing the bullet seating die but the price is right. Can a regular .357 bullet seating die be used or should it also be carbide? Not interested in anything LEE or wanting to lube cases.

only the sizing die is carbide. the others are not.

I have several seating dies for different loads, so having a few is good

On my .45ACP RCBS carbide die set the sizing die and bullet seater die are marked TC ? Tungsten Carbide? Just wondering? The flaring die is unmarked.

i dont know but only the sizing die has to be carbide and the others are not carbide... the carbide refers to an extra hard carbide ring at the die mouth that does the sizing. Only this part is referred to as carbide or not

That explains it thanxs ........been a while since I used handgun dies.I'll just scrounge a couple bullet seater dies at gun shows.

I plan on 148gr plated HBWC loaded to 750-800fps for paper and 158-180 gr jacketed for full power loads every now and then. Will the taper crimp suffice or roll crimp for cast? I know the 148gr HBWC were crimped over the leading edge of the bullet. These loaded backwards /3gr Unique out of a .38 special model 10 would expand to near 70 caliber with no leading. Playing around loads not for target.

You'll probably want a roll crimp for revolver rounds (or they'll creep). Typically roll crimp = headspace off rim, taper crimp = headspace on mouth.

the HBWC may not need a crimp at all given the light recoil
For the full power, taper crimp is enough in my opinion. I taper crimp all my 357loads which occasionally are loaded according to older books.
I just checked factory Federal American Eagle 158gr rounds and they are taper crimped.

Will call RCBS about parts tomorrow the seater die is MIA except for the spacer ring to use from 38-357 and it came with a loose 38WC seater plug? This would be for WC /cast correct? Is a different seater plug required for jacketed 158gr Hornady etc?

Never used the spacer ring, I prefer setting up my dies before the start of any session. Seater dies usually comes with two seating plugs, round nose and SWC (SWC seater works with RCBS SWC and WC cast bullets).

Thinking Seater die that is MIA has the other seating plug and plug lock ring installed. Likely they'll send you the seater with two plugs. If not, I have an extra round nose seater plug, wouldn't mind giving it to you if you can take care of this shipping, or pick up in Calgary.
