doing some 30 /30 reloading today turned on my scale done the routine to calibrate ... i was doing 30 grains of 4320 powder , the first few loads went good then all of a sudden it was doing 30.1 and 30.2 grains i didnt use it so i put it back in the hopper . my ? is should i be concerned about the extra grs or not or is it ok to use it ????? thanks...... hound 13

how long did you have the scale on before you started calibrating and using it?

ideally leave it on all the time, but at least 1 hour before you use it so the load cell can warm up and work properly.

i here you i cailibrated it as soon as i turned it on normally i wood do it after about half hour the powder was fine no clumping i have those patches . to keep out moisture so all is good on that end hound 13

The powder isn't clumping, the scale tells the trickler tube to turn and dispense powder. If there is a lot of powder at the end of the tube any rotation of the trickler drops too much powder. The straw mod helps prevent this and the other mod speeds up the dispensing of the powder.

The problem you describe depends on the type and size or the powder being used and happens all the time, that is why the straw mod is used. The speed increase mod is for impatient people who don't like waiting for the next charge.

I haven't tried this yet, but sometimes a "clump" (that isn't stuck together) falls in the last trickler twist for an overcharge. Apparently putting a straw in the last 1" of the tube minimizes that. I sometimes would dump the charge back in the hopper but found it quicker to pull a few tweezers full to satisfy my OCD so the powder charge is correct.

I found after some input from other CGN'rs and some trial and error that 1.5-2 inches of McDonalds straw works even better. My chargemaster went from giving one or two tenths overcharge every 10 loads to about one or two every 100 loads. I also did the reprogram to speed up the dispensing by keeping it on high speed closer to the charge setpoint. The best thing about these mods is that they are free :)
If I get an overcharge I do the same thing and use tweezers to pluck a couple grains out.

With pistol charges I don't care if it is a tenth of a grain off but for my rifle rounds I want it exact.

Its scale drift. Turn the scale on a few hours before you need to use it or it drifts a lot. Preferably a day before, and keep the room temp constant with no air drifts

Make sure your zero is good each time
