RCBS Chargemaster vs Lyman 1200 DPS?

HI everyone.
I have been reloading for 25yrs., and have decided to step into the 21st century.
Been dropping charges through powder measures, dippers, scales and when i found out my dad bought an RCBS system i became quite jealous as i was the one who got him started.
Anyways, what does the majority think, "RCBS Chargemaster" or the "Lyman 1200 DPS?"
Did a bit of research and have heard the Lyman takes around 30 mins(?) to warm up.

Couldn't be happier with my Chargemaster!

Very top notch unit and a good company to deal with as well.

I chose the new Lyman 1200DPS for a couple of reasons - 2 buddies use and swear by them, less $$ and more importantly, it's what was in stock when I went to buy. It's great - fast as me seating bullets, keeps up no sweat and very accurate. As far as a 30 minute warmup goes, mine gets it because I'm usually a lot longer than that prepping cases anyway, but we have used it after only a few minutes warmup and a calibration. Weighing thrown charges showed the accuracy as right on, same as after the 30 minute wait. Easy to clean after use. RCBS voters will point out the excellent customer service if you ever have a problem and I agree with them - they've always been extremely well mannered and promptly resolved any issue I've ever had, but I simply haven't had any issues with anything Lyman. Suspect they're very similar and the only criticism I've ever heard of was a concern with overcharging tendencies from the odd RCBS in prolonged sessions, but I can't say. I doubt it, but I guess it's possible.
 
6mmBR.com did a comparison test with the RCBS, Lyman, and PACT digital powder dispensers. After reading this review I went out and bought the RCBS.

I have used the Lyman for a few years now and find most of the complaints heard from others to be exaggerated.

The warm up is not a problem if one thinks ahead a bit or like mentioned is done while prepping and primming cases.

The newest version - or an older one upgraded with the new powder box - is fast. Mine will throw 60 grains of IMR 4350 in under 20 seconds.

Like all scales - electronic or otherwise - it will drift if near a draft or near fluorescent lighting. Avoid these however and I have thrown in excess of 200 charges in a row without having to re-calibrate.

Draining the powder box - if one takes the time to read the directions ;) - takes less than 30 seconds.

All in all they are a good setup and I would never hesitate to buy another.
 
I bought a lyman got to use it for a year, it wonders all over the place in the amount of powder it throws, because of the cr*ppy scale. The worst case senario was .6 grains heavy.
All mistakes were caught by checking with a beam scale.
Finally shelved it and bought a RCBS, no wait, every throw is right on the money, quick auto feature as soon you set down the pan and it returns to zero it starts to fill to required amount. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another RCBS ChargeMaster or recommend someone else to buy a RCBS Chargemaster.

I went with the Lyman 1200 DPS3, and no regrets!

Most reviews that you see are based on the previous versions. The issues with the previous versions are addressed in V3.

This unit is easy and fast to clean (Clean out chute + new inner tub that wont hold powder), throws powder faster than I can keep up with and accurate to boot. Other new features are the auto-repeat button and expanded memory as well.

Yes this has a 30 minute warmup, but you can bypass it. It's only there to thermally stabalize the unit if say you take it out of storage and set it under a hot light ect. My guess Lyman did that to prevent phone calls from people whining about excessive thermal drift. I'm sure the RCBS is not immune to that either.
