Discovered a weird quirk today! I was setting up my Chargemaster to reload, and discovered that it weighs different if the clear plastic cover is closed, than when the cover is open!! It worked fine either way and was accurate both ways according to my check weights, but weighed about 1/2 grain heavier if the cover was closed! I tried this several ways and recalibrated several times, and checked with the check weights several times, with the same result. It was actually quite consistent but insisted on weighing heavier if I closed the cover. It was well warmed up, and siting firmly on a heavy table. Could it be because the table wasn't level? I didn't think to check that. Any body experience this? It was actually the first time I tried closing the cover, as I have always left it open in the past???

I have never weighed anything on my Chargemaster with the plastic cover closed, so cannot comment.

Are you working under Flourescent lights, perchance?

EMI can charge plastics a small amount, thus the question.

Regards, Dave.

I'll ask the obvious question: do you have air currents in the area? That's what the cover is intended to protect against.

I'm troubleshooting a problem with my Chargemaster right now where it seems to measure everything about .8 gn heavier than I expect, when measured against my GemPro 250. This means it's dropping light charges that read as correct on the scale, but when I put the charge on my GemPro it reads light. I've verified it by comparing against the check weights (I have three scales so I have a few weights lying around) and it's consistent.

I'm doing some work tonight so I'll see if closing the cover makes a difference.

put a mc donalds straw inside the tube this i supposed to give more accurate loads im going to try it with mine hound 13

if your scale is not level it wont work right ... if there is air from heat runs that will not work either >>> i let mine warm up at least a half hour then start useing it sounds like something simple but its hard to fix .... i never use my shield so it doesnt happen to me ... flouresencent lights dont bother my scale if you have one over the scale it will through it out of whack but to have it hang on the ceiling it will not affect it at all .in my opinion hound 13

I'm using the straw hack, but this is something else. The dispenser doesn't throw heavy loads because the powder is clumping-- it throws light loads because it thinks it's dispensed all the powder it needs to because it's measuring it too heavy.

Right now I have the included pan on the platen and the weight is jumping around between 143.7 gn and 143.8 gn. Since I don't have fluorescent lights (LED only), have given both scales ample time to warm up, have calibrated both and have both on a stable surfacea, I'm suspecting bad power and am looking into line conditioners.

Maybe try a dryer sheet on the plastic, eliminating static.

As for scale warm up, why shut it off ever... My scale has been on for months.

Well, electronic components do have a stated operational lifetime but, yeah.. probably no harm in it.

I'm going to try the dryer thing but I doubt it's static. I've ordered a power conditioner but I just noticed that my WiFi router is about 8 feet away from the scale. I'm also going to try shutting it off and see if the stability improves.. after I've watched a bit of Netflix :)

Yes on the fluorescent lights, didn't know that could be a problem, but the light is on the ceiling. First time I've used it with the cover closed as well. There is a heat vent, but I always wait till the furnace shuts down. Guess static electricity could be a factor, although never actually noticed it. Have to check the bench for level as well. Thanks all
