RCBS Chargemaster

Mines within .1 always. Actually it's bang on, been .1 a few times. Check out the YouTube videos on programming them. Member here LawrenceN....? , made me two machined inserts which replace the McDonald's straw overcharge cludge. Find him in my feedbacks.

Yes I have two. Perhaps my wife is correct.

OK I have a Insert custom made machined insert in the discharge tube - I will look on utube ! RJ

I like my Chargemaster, make sure you turn it on and let it warm up before using, my loading room is on the cool side. There are several vids that show program mods, i have made some changes and am happy with the results.

I'm on my second Charge Master. The key pad died on the first one. They have personalities, the second one different from the first. I use a brass fitting with a wrap of scotch tape. I think it 1/4"hose nipple on one end and 1/8 NPT on the other. The Charge Master is not 100% trustworthy. It drifts during the day and gives different readings when the pan is removed, it reads different than the actual weight of the pan. I always have an RCBS scale test weight handy and hit zero before use if it sat some time between charges. I load at the range so its powered by a sealed 12V battery. Seems the worse powder to throw heavy is Varget. With fine powder it throws more consistently than my Jones powder measure which can be 3/10ths high and the next one 3/10ths low. I shoot short range bench rest and its accurate enough for that.

I have owned two Chargemasters at different times , buying them from guys who moved or got away from loading.
I ended up selling both and have gone back to my Harrel, MVA and Lyman 55 measures and a beam scale for precision loading.

To each their own. I've had a charge master for almost 10 years and use it for all my single stage match ammo loading. For my bulk ammo I use a Dillon progressive and its charge thrower.

I have the lite but it has worked perfectly. Certainly a few tricks to using it, but for the money i haven't found a better measure.

The straw trick works great, I run dual chargemaster lites and get great SD/ES with varget. I always warm them up and keep them away from electrical interference and wipe them down with anti static cloths before use. And I run them in manual, they tend to drift in auto.

Thanks a lot for passing this info on. Very grateful to have this info.

You're welcome!

All my precision ammo (ie anything thats made on the single stage) has been with the Chargemaster and it sure doesn't seem to be holding me back (had 3 x sub 0.2MOA groups on Friday).

I will say that it is finicky with Varget but even so it gets the job done.

I throw everything with a chargemaster but re- weigh every charge on my Acculab scale. If +/- .1 or .2 gr is good enough for you no need to re-weigh it. I may be a little more anal wanting -0.00 to +.02 gr. Ammo is for long range competition.

I have a RCBS chargemaster - How accurate are yours at throwing CONSISTENT weights - Mind seems to Vary EVEN with Sperical - Ball powders ! My Redding powder measure is MUCH Better ! :p RJ

Yes they are not accurate.

You are better off to spend your money on a more accurate scale and a set of Lee powder scoops instead of the automation.

Hmm Not sure this is Correct info ? I reprogrammed and it’s more accurate now but SLOWER have to keep playing ! RJ

BUT still NOT good Enough !

Not sure where this inaccuracy info comes from. I verify charges on my beam scale frequently and it's always bang on. Unless you guys mean when it sometimes throws an extra .1 grain. It does tell you it's over....

Thanks for the straw tip! My scale hasn't thrown a .1 over charge since.
