has anyone came across a store that carries spare primer trays for the rcbs hand primer(the square tray with the clear lid)?

i'd like one for small rifle and 1 for large rifle, i hate emptying the tray to change.

thanks

I was thinking the same thing last night actually. One for large rifle and one for large rifle magnum.

I use two RCBS priming tools, ( one for small and one for large) and I like them, but do not ever store primers in the trays. Storing loose primers in a tray is a very bad idea. Store them in the original packaging. The manufacturer provides them with the individual pockets for each primer to prevent a mass detonation in the event of a spark or impact setting one off. Eyesight is precious! Suggest you reconsider.

are you saying not to use a hand primer at all, or just not to store primers in the supplied tray?

how would a little bit of cardboard and plastic stop 1 primer from detonating the others around it?

my problem was i emptied the whole packet of 100 into the tray but only ended up only having 25 cases to prime, it would be a real pain to reinsert the remaining 75 into the original packet.

i will admit that i should have thought first and only placed 25 primers in the tray, but whatever.

I use two hand priming tools mine are Lee. If I have 25 cases to prime I only put 25 primer on the tray. That way my priming tool is always empty when I am finished priming and primers not used stay in the factory carton.

I'm saying I use and like using the RCBS tool but it is NOT a storage container. Primers should never be stored in bulk, and the RCBS tray is a bulk container. The little plastic compartments in primer packages really DO prevent mass detonations, that's what they are designed for. Read the primer section of Richard Lee's book Modern Reloading if you want more information from a real expert.
