A friend is looking to sell her grandfather's JR.2 press. I am interested for loading rifle rounds, can anybody point me to some info on this press so I can decide if it will do the job for me or not? Searching this forum and google turned up very little.

Thanks,
Mark

I used a junior for years. Traded up to a rockchucker about 15 years ago. Nothing wrong with the Jr. if your a low volume loader of smaller calibres but for the difference in dollars would buy the Rockchucker.

I've used a JR since 1979 for all my reloading and I have yet to find a job it can't handle when working with standard cartridges(.270 Win, .30-06, .375 H&H, etc). Resizing .30-06 to .35 Whelen? - no problem.

I recently tried out a Rockchucker and, while it offered better mechanical advantge, it didn't really do anything the JR wouldn't do.

If you can get the JR at a reasonable price, I'd say go for it.

If it is in decent shape, offer her $50 for it. I wouldn't go much beyond that, unless there is a bunch of dies, reloading components, etc...included as you can find Rockchucker's here on the EE for under a hundred bucks regularly.

It is a decent press designed to handle standard calibers. It is a little light for use on the big magnums. Since it is RCBS it is warrantied for life, so if anything goes wrong with it, RCBS will fix or replace it for you for free! You can never go wrong with RCBS tools.

Thanks, guys. At the moment, my reloading needs are 8x57 and 303, so I should be good to go with it. What accessories should be with it? Primer bottle and arm? Anything else? If they are not with it, are current versions still available and what do they cost?
