Good day gentlemen. I'm looking for some help in locating a primer transfer bar (small pistol) for an RCBS Piggyback II. I've contacted RCBS and they informed me that they no longer carry that part for this press, as it is decades old.
Just wondering if some of the collective wisdom in here can direct me to some place I might get one - and the accompaning small primer plug.
Thanks for any help - F@W

you have the large primer bar correct? make a brass bushing press it into the hole and good to go, push it out to go back to the large primers

have a couple of these piggyback presses and many parts but no primer bars spare, use them for 44 acp and 9mm

Yes, I actually have two large primer transfer bars. I contemplated making a small primer insert, but I don't have the tooling to do a good job. I was also thinking of having someone weld up the hole and then drill it out for small primer. I'm hoping to just get my hands on the proper piece.

not sure I would weld the hole but open it up and make a sleeve to press in for the small size, not hard to do less than half hours work, the parts for these are getting harder to find

I could probably do what you suggest, if I had a lathe - but with the tools I have, it's beyond my capabilities.

Something like this?

Ya' Rugerman ! Exactly like that. - - - Don't s'pose it'd be lookin' fer a new home ?

I think we can arrange something for sure. I am still going through my RCBS stuff, not sure if i have small primer pin. If i do, do you need the spring as well? No promises but i will keep looking. Have you tried asking RCBS for the small primer pin? A couple of years ago i was talking to one of their guys because my primer pin was giving me problems. He asked me if i had the upgraded one that was teflon covered. I didn't so he sent me one. I know you asked about the transfer bar but it might be worth it to ask about the small primer only. I have two Piggybacks in service at the moment. They are amazing devices as long as you keep them in sync Have loaded thousands of rounds with them. PM me.

Lucky is the Man with a Bench-vise, a few Files and a Drill and knows how to use these Tools. Definitely no Lathe required for this project.

I been using a Piggyback for many years. Time permitting my next project will be a well working Bullet feeder system which does not malfunctions cast-sized+lubed Bullets.

Cheers

This is what I dug up. It's from an old RCBS Ammomaster that I dont' use anymore. Same era as your piggyback I would imagine. I was toying with the idea of converting it to load 50 BMG at one point but that will likely never happen now. Will never use it in a progressive manner again, for sure.

Hi Gatehouse. Those are indeed, the transfer bars for my machine. How come you won't "use it in a progressive manner again" ? Did you have some issue(s) with it ? Mine (I have an Ammomaster, too) work fine, for the most part. I think they are from the same era too - many of the parts are interchangeable, between the two.
I don't believe the Ammomaster would work, to load 50 BMG I don't think the stroke is long enough - nor is the tool/die carrier robust enough. I have a Hornady "Projector" that I inherited from a buddy, who was contemplating loading 50 BMG, but later, decided against it. It has a sufficiently long stroke and the tool head is way more robust than the RCBS.

I recall RCBS selling a conversion kit for it for 50 bmg, so I was toying with the idea. But I probably would never have got around to it even if I could still buy a 50 bmg but now they are prohib.

I won’t use it progressively as the part of the base that the primer shuttle runs on broke off. And I have a Dillon 1100 and Hornady LNL AP now. I find the ammomaster a bit clunky in comparison.

If you ever feel like getting it running again I do have a spare base casting. Converted the .50 cal ammomaster to progressive and ended up with small pile of extra parts. At least I can still use it for .577-450
