As any CGN viewer knows, the venerable RCBS line of products has a solid reputation among reloaders. But lately;

Is it just me noticing such posts or does it seem that RCBS is developing QC problems lately? Has RCBS outsourced production to India? By all reports the company stands behind their products and has excellent customer support but problems with spanking new gear is nonetheless a frustrating thing. Comments?

The second one in the link list is mine. The new toggle block (the piece that cracked) that they sent me under warrany is the same as the original shown in the pictures. The holes are not drilled square into the block and the nut sits on there ####-eyed. I ground a shim to fit under one side of the nut so as to transfer some of the force from the threads inside.

Someone made a short video recently in a store. They were cycling a Rockchucker handle up and down and the ram was tilting from side to side at the top and bottom of the stroke. It was posted here on CGN, but I can't remember where I saw it. If I recall correctly, it had a different handle setup than mine. I still love my Rockchucker, and for the price, I'm not expecting NASA quality machining, but the toggle block/handle hole isn't even close by general rough machine shop standards. Other than that, the press is pretty much bullet proof. Their customer service and support department is still world class.

Why doesn't stuff just work?

Very sad to see that good and reputable company's like RCBS fall into the "race to bottom" to lower their prices and follow the general market. I work in a consumer electronic store and i can tell you that this kind of QC issues is growing up, even in the reputable company's like Sony or Toshiba. The chinese crap that flood the market, force the "majors" to lower their price to stay competitive, but at what cost.

I stopped buying RCBS a few years ago, better luck with Hornady products. Its a shame I bought my Rockchucker in 1979 still as tight as the day I bought it.

Even the best company will slip up and pass a product that should've been weeded out by the QC guys. However, the thing about RCBS is that they 100% stand behind their product, no questions asked. If you end up with a lemon, RCBS will make sure it is either fixed or replaced at their cost.
