Rcbs scale calibration

Hi, I'm just new to reloading and have bought the rock chucker reliading kit. In the manual it says to check your scale monthly for accuracy. Is there an easy way to do this without buying the $60 Rcbs weight checks? Thanks

Weigh a particular item ie a bullet or coin and keep it as a reference weight.

And preferably something stainless steel.
Corrosion on a copper jacketed bullet will change the weight.
Not much, but some.

you can use a coin from the royal mint, if you collect. they weights of silver are stated exact. i am talking the ones you find at the post office.
then it will say on coin package, weight, but also go to website and verify in grams (never troy ounces!)
i use to use a silver dollar, handle it with gloves.
you can always get your money back in silver!

I am using the silver 50 cent peice that my Dad used for years it has been around since the 50's
