RCM re barrel options

I was thinking about re-barreling my 338 RCM when I had it but eventually traded it off so I can't offer you an answer.
What were you wanting to make it into ?
Possibly the main concern would be if the action length would work for your alteration ?

its my mates although he bought the gun for the rifle itself a few years ago, 20 inch barrel, felt good and didn't look into the 338 rcm too well but wanted the 'magnum' and thought its the equiv to a 338 wsm.. which it-is-to -a-degree.. and that's until Factory ammo A- availability comes into play and B- the price of said ammo, if you can find it close by (cant be freighted)..
he does have dies altho only 50 cases, but isn't 'set up' to load and doesn't sound too keen on it yet..
So around the fire at sambar camps we have been talkin about what to do with it, finding a buyer is almost just a waiting game which could go on and on, trading would get SFA for it.. so I thought about a Rebarrel job..
He's other option, he is a Howa fan and so the 375 Ruger in 20 inch appeals to him, and also to some degree the 45-70 marlin lever scoped.
I was thinking along the lines of, 300 RSAUM , 300 WSM , 325 WSM , or trying to talk him into a 270 WSM !
he wants to be able to buy Factory ammo for a while (doesn't shoot much, but now understands importance of saving brass)
ive done research and found the rim dia for RCM n RSAUM is .532 & .534, which I think is the only part that matters, case length is the Same also. however the Base diameters are, .532 & .550 .... but I think that's to do with the Chamebr , not the Bolt face..
this way a Custom 18-19-20 inch tube and hes pretty happy. and is lookin at around $600 for complete fit ready to shoot with a blued steel tube basic standard etc.

Imagine this is the lad you wanted the brass for?.... Still no luck on that, and only 20 views in 3 weeks..... Probably from 20 people thinking I was selling it instead of looking for it....
Why would he want to go .375 Ruger?.... Give it a few years and he would be right back in the same boat.....

Sounds like it would be interesting and a worthwhile project too.

Also you mention the Howa in 375 Ruger, I had one and really liked it.
Very well made really accurate and just an all-round dandy rifle to pack, far better quality than two previous 375 Rugers that I had.
Fortunately it has stayed in our family..... My Son made a swap with me and he loves it.

Ream the chamber to 338 wsm or re-bore to 35 WSM?
Really though, 338 RCM is probably the best of the short mags though.

I liked the 338 RCM that I had, it was a nice walk around rifle to carry.
Problem was for that I also had a custom built 338 / 06 built by my Brother that was so close in performance one made the other redundant.
I would take the $600 and buy a press and scales and load for the rifle. RSAUM factory ammo isn't the easiest to find either, it doesn't seem as common as the WSM. You could even cut down readily available 375 Ruger brass in a pinch.

Brad, the 375 ruger brass is not a problem if you can get some 300 win mag brass ...

I see you've drank some of Jonh Peterson, RJ and cfbmi's anti .375 Ruger Koolaid.
Actually, not really...... Although I do prefer the H&H....... The .375 Ruger is a fine cartridge and I would imagine the baby brother in the RCM is a fine one too (just like the .338 wm is a fine cartridge)..... I just don't get the desire to buy a rifle that you have to scrounge or fire form brass for..... I don't share the view that .375 Ruger brass is plentiful....... And wager it would be much less available down under....
I have had an add up in the EE trying to find brass for Whelenlad's buddy to no avail and with a whopping 20 views that I suspect were actually excited perspective buyers.......
In Canada, anyone that wants 375 Ruger brass or smmo can buy it and have it shipped to your house in a day or two. I've even found it (new) at gun shows. I don't know about Australia, though.
If I was in Australia and needed 338 RCM ammo and 50 pc of brass, I would just make ammo. Or cut down Ruger cases and form the brass. And as a last resort, cut down 300WM brass and form it.
If you want to limit yourself to ammo that is available at CT, forget about anything WBY, old and not very popular, RUM cartridges etc.

I agree with this post 100 % and having had three rifles chambered in 375 Ruger with a 4th being contemplated I am not trying to slag it.
Will it replace or make obsolete the the 375 H&H... never, that is pure nonsense just food for an argument.
We have enough brass for the Ruger to get by but it's still not as easy to find as some would have us thinking.
Sure, it can be re-formed from 300 WM, but a royal pain in my opinion and for me not worth the trouble.
I try to be as non-biased as I can but facts are facts.

They are open year round, 6-7 days a week, except holidays. Nobody closes a sporting goods/hunting/fishing store in the summer.
I'm beginning to see why some of you have trouble finding brass or other stuff.
