What steps needed to be taken to obtain a Antique Letter for a 1885 shotgun.I know the answer (&&&&&&) but thought Id put it out there anyway

Doesnt Matter How Old It Is, Has To Be A Muzzle Loader As Well Or Fire 14 Ga Ammo Etc.or Some Obsolete Ammo. There Are Many Factors, Plus They Only Sent Me The Letter When They De Registered Them. Ps They Keep The Info On File.

Here are the requirements for an antique shotgun, if yours qualifies within these stipulations it shouldn't be a problem getting an antique letter.

Shotguns:

manufactured before 1898 that can discharge only rim-fire cartridges, other than 22 Calibre Short, 22 Calibre Long or 22 Calibre Long Rifle cartridges;

manufactured before 1898 that can discharge centre-fire cartridges, other than 10, 12, 16, 20, 28, or 410 gauge cartridges

Hmmm, I think Samson is not asking how to define an antique he's asking how you get the letter stating its an antique. If anyone can answer the question I'd be interested also.

(BTW bjsgear, I think you're wrong about the age, it does matter how old it is).

Silverback is quoting from SOR 98-464 or statement of regulation 98 etc. Cartridge guns made before 1898 are exempt provided they meet the limitations within that SOR

Read Silverbacks also there is a sticky at the top of the forum that I posted this is the e-mail for the Techs. and verifiers at the CFC. e-mail them a picture of the firearm in Question serial # and all the info barrel length Etc. tell them you would like a antique status letter for the firearm if it meets the criteria. they should respond. also you can call the CFC. there extension is 1090 I believe I will check tomorrow.

When talking to the cfc regarding antiques , ask to speak to techs. the front line telephone people must be bypassed , because they often try to hinder the antique process. my experience x2 so far.
the techies are great.
