How many CGN's have a RCMP marked No.4.....i read that the RCMP were issued approx. 1.019 No.4 rifles between 1947-1966..these were then sold off to either RCMP members or disposed of through Crown Asssets in the early 70's.

Joe Salter.com has several RCMP No.4 rifles...priced from 795.00- 895.00,,also a good selection of Long Branch No.4 rifles too.

I have two of the MP marked No4's.

I am planning on selling one of them, and I have the sales document that shows this particular rifle was sold by the RCMP to lever arms.

I have one as well and it's sn is listed in that book about RCMP equipment
and accoutrement's .I forget the title but it lists all firearm sn for all the guns so they say but I know they missed some

"Arms and ACCoutrements of the Mounted Police" Philips & Klancher has a list of RCMP No4s. There are sets of MP stamps at large so beware.

yep thats true and it's the same for RCAF so beware .my friend is a retired RCMP and he has his No4 that was issued to him in the arctic he has his receipt from the RCMP BUT that rifle sn isn't listed in the book so there are a few exceptions

Yikes
I just bought an RCAF marked No1 rifle (although from a trusted board member) and I've got an RCAF marked #4 Longbranch.
I've never heard of faking the RCAF stamps, is there anyway to tell a fake (other than an obvious fresh stamp in an old stock or such) ?

not really just try to find out as much about the dealer and where he got it from. Most No 4's have the stamp on the receiver and a good many of the ones I've seen have like a shadow stamp like struck twice these stamps were done by armourers so they won't be perfect sometimes there is a broadarrow above the RCAF mark .I would shy away from what looks like individually stamped letters the stamps I've seen look like the RCAF stamp was one unit not a bunch of uneven letters in a row

The only thing bad about Joe Salter's guns, is that they all have import marking stamped into the metal - even the one's he lists as having no import markings, if you look closely at the pictures, you can see them.

Thanks ,...JayCee.. that's good to know..im' new at this..i was drooling over Joe Salter's Lee Enfield's....but never noticed the import marking...thanks again.

I remember hunting with my Dad about 1965 and coming across the local Mountie who was hunting with a few locals carrying his as-new #4 LE.

Even at 12 I was a milsurp fan and loved looking in the Eaton's and Simpson's Sears catalogues at the Lee Enfields for $12.99 (or was is $19.99 by then?) and I was in awe looking at his rifle. He was a kind of grumpy sour looking guy though, I remember that.

.... Now, if only I could afford one ! ..... When the No4s where withdrawn, there were C1s on inventory, in storage mostly, and Winchester mdl.70s in .308 were the standard detachment issue. Later, some Rugers and Remington's found their way into the system. ER-Teams used both .308, and predominately, 22-250s . ..... David K.

Well, it's a good thing that Joe is a lawyer & posts lots of pictures, because his discriptions usually contain lots of mistakes.

Did Joe Salter used to be in Canada? I read on his site he's in New Hampshire. I don't think we can buy from him anyway, can we?
