RCMP Phone interview

I haven't recieved a phone call to date. However, when my PAL comes due I start the process 6 or 7 months in advance and photocopy EVERYTHING. Keep notes of whom I talk to and when. Then only when the new plastic is in hand I can relax. They seem to drag their feet a bit longer when you have a 12(6) on the back.

And don't taze me bro!

i applied in march 09, received my rpal july 09. i did get that call from the rcmp, it went like this:

"no, no, no, no no no no no no no no no. no no. no no. no no no no no, target shooting, no no no no no, don't we all get depressed sometimes?, no no no" that's about it.

I did not get a call but I was surprised that an ex-girlfriend actually got a call lol! Good thing we are good terms with each other or she could of said what ever she wanted lol!

Did you list her as a reference? If not then what ******* right do they have to call her without your permission?

they have the right and WILL call any gf you had in the past 5 years i think.

That is what I was told. not sure if it is limited to 5 years. We use to be common law so they knew about her and basically they call to find out if they think you would be dangerous in any way and if they would be worried if you are allowed to own fire arms. We get along really great so the conversation was short and my ex along with the rc's just joked around for a bit. They also called the references I had listed which is kind of joke. Who would list someone that would give a bad reference? I guess you never know? I was really surprised how deep into your personal life and past they actually looked, which is a good thing I think.

What would have happened if she would've given you a bad reference would you have parted ways on bad terms? That'd be pure hearsay, which is legally inadmissible.

I think she asked something like that. If I remember right I think she would have to prove or give reason why or I would be dangerous? something like, he threatend to kill me before or something of that sort. they found out about her so I am sure they can find enough people to talk to to find out if it is legit and within my character. This was some time ago but I know her opinion definitly mattered. I'll have to ask her next time I talk to her.

That's what I figured. So you didn't even put her down as an ex-spouse and they still found out about her on their own? Crap!

The police are calling our exes and making sure it's "OK" with them if we have a firearms license....wow.

SUCH ####ING BULL####!

WHY ARE YOU GUYS NOT MAD AS #### OVER THIS ####!

i'm not happy about it at all. Thankfully, I have a wife that doesn't mind firearms in our home.

it would be stupid for the rcmp to just go by one opinion, of an ex-girlfriend or ex-wife. When you apply for any police force, they call just about everyone you know, or even don't know of! They don't judge you by the opinion of only one person. If they called everyone of your references, and all of them said that you were a psychopath, then i guess you wouldn't get your license! haha

anyways, I guess if they really didn't "feel" that you should get your license, they would just refuse it. i wonder how many people were refused?

Never got any calls PAL or RPAL. This should be a poll, if someone has not said or done so yet?

SUCH f**kING BULLs**t!

Because several women have been killed by ex-husband with guns so it does become a safety issue. Good or bad owning a gun requires your safe enough to have a gun before you get it.

I've got three daughters if there Ex suddenly wants a gun. No I don't want him having one particularly if he is abusive or has threatened to kill her. This creates the problem that she says no not because of legitimate concern but to be a problem or she has a legitimate concern we can't know for sure. After all I don't know too many guys who threaten their wives in front of witnesses Now we have a decision to make should he have the gun or not. Well if we don't issue the permit he gets a little pissed off or uses a knife or a bat a little less effective and easier to defend against and the Anti-gun groups don't have more data . If we do she could end up shot and all the anti-gun groups have more ammo to their cause and she's dead. Personally I agree with it. Same as if my wife felt that I was becoming unsafe with guns I'd want her to get the guns removed from the house for the kids safety.
