RCMP Phone interview

I had photocopied all of my paperwork when I renewed last, and took it to a guy I know in Montana to show him because he was curious. He was just blown away. Told me his Class 3 paperwork wasn't that bad. The questions made him shake his head.

I have a sick game I play when I renew. Where it asks about losing your job. Since I work 2 seasonal jobs every year, this conuses me. I phone in and explain I don't know what to put. "I mean, I lose my job at least twice a year. I just don't have that kind of energy to go on rampages and/or take my own life. There's got to be a lot of work and planning that must go into such ventures." I'm trying to illustrate the lunacy to them about such idiotic questions. Both times I've done that, the other end of the line thought it was pretty funny. They tell me to put "no" because its a scheduled thing.

I just don't know if I'd have the stones to check "yes" to the ending of a significant relationship thing if it went bad. Might as well dump your guns on Allan Rock's doorstep. Or explain it away "Well you know, it was just a one-nighter thing, we kinda got married and had a few kids. Geez, I guess it sort of got away on a guy. Didn't really mean much..." Good thing that's not my problem at the moment.

Oh I am so going to hell.

Oh I am so going to hell.

If you're going to hell, we're all coming with you....

If I were the guy on the other end of the phone asking all these questions, I'd be embarrassed, and feeling kinda creepy for having to be so intrusive. Does anyone really think lunatics are going to admit to being psychotic? I realize they're just doing their job and maybe it made sense to introduce these kinds of measures at some point along the way but gee whiz, you just gotta stand up & admit out loud it has become an idiotic process.

Just my 2 cents.....as you were.....

To mediatrigg. Yes i was stirring the pot hehe. i thought the comment about getting angry painted a picture of psyhcotic maniacs who turn into the hulk when they strip a lug wrench.

I'm with ya on part of your posts...

I live in Canada.

It's called a free country but it seems like someone else always wants to tell us what to do. Anyone else feeling this?

We've all heard that freedom isn't free ... these days it seems like freedom isn't even freedom anymore, let alone free.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Anyway ... Peace and blessings to all.

My references and I just got our interviews done.

My application (new applicant for rpal) was received on Nov 2. I didn't think they would call so soon.

I got the call last year when i applyed for my rpal i asked the miss if this was something they do with everyone or just select people and she said every one

all i did when i applied was check my credit card stament online...and when they took the money then i knew i was aproved, i think the phone call is just to make sure you dont say anyting contrary to your app.

hey all, first post.

i just got my RPAL and someone from the rcmp called me and my referrences. they asked me why i wanted the restricted licence, which i find a totally reasonable question, but honestly felt like saying to this kind lady "WTF business is it of yours?"

Im not an anti-authority type, nor am i some tin foil hat wearing xenophobe, I'm just a guy who wants to get in to hunting. Thats why I got a gun licence. I took the restricted licence course because it was a few bucks more. But when I was asked why, it deeply offended me.

I'm not a criminal and not mentally ill, so WTF do you (the cfc/rcmp) need to know why?

I dont even have a problem registering my guns, but should the firearms licenceing people not be able to do a quick check on a computer to see that the speeding ticket i got two years ago is the worst thing ive ever done? I think that when you apply for a restricted licence, the onus shouldn't be on you to say why you want one, intead it should be on them as to why you can't have one.

maybe i need to learn to make tin foil hats

Who knows....

I called home one day from Afghanistan, and my old lady let me know that there was a letter from the CFC that asked me to call them.

So, calling them, they started asking me the questions that I had already answered on the forms...

Once she asked me if I had ever been prohibited from possessing a firearm, I laughed, and she asks me why I laughed.

"Ma'am, I'm calling you from Afghanistan...there is a pistol on my hip...soooo, No"

RPAL was in the mailbox when I got home.

When a friend and I applied for our RPAL's around the same time we used each other as references. When the RCMP called him to ask about me they worded their questions like:
"Has so and so ever used violence to solve a problem"
with simple yes or no answers.
Then......when they called me to ask questions about him the were worded like:
"Give an example when so and so used violence to solve a problem"
almost like entrapment:mad:

just one more thing to add, i don't think its the rcmp per say that are doing all these checks. its just a call centre that is overseen by the rcmp. i highly doubt that an actual rcmp member reviews the applications, but theres probably a couple desk jockeys around the office for when the occasional odd ball comes up.

When asked that question about a family member from years ago. I asked back " Does world war two count ? They ended the interview he got he got his RPAL

I think mine call came from the RCMP because the caller ID said RCMP, and that was the reason I picked up my phone:stirthepot2:

A co-worker of mine applied for his RPAL about July and have yet to receive it. He has called them numerous times with an answer of well we don't know whats going on with it, then he received a phone call and they would double and triple ask questions in different ways. Such as Have you ever been convicted of stealing, then have you ever stolen and not been caught. At the start it was said to take only 5-10 min , actually ending 45min later. He has received 3 calls like this and still no RPAL.

What is the problem guys...........:bangHead:

I got a call from the RCMP today regarding my RPAL application. It was about 5-10 minutes and basically consisted of them going over each question on my application with me. Do the RCMP call all applicants or am I just 'special' does this mean I should expect my license sooner rather than later?

:D
The RCMP must be interviewing the new PAL/RPAL applicants because for the past couple of renewals I was not contacted & none of my references were contacted either.

There might be particular circumstances/criteria that trigger an interview?

I own lots of guns including prohibs.
