RCMP Revolver Question

A Colt New Service (and thus its holster) is quite a bit larger than a S&W K Frame with the same barrel length.

You are right, however, remember that the old style holsters were not form fitted to a particular gun like they are today; the old holsters were little more then leather sacks to hold a gun, particularly the RCMP style flap-over type. It didn't really matter if they were a bit loose, the flap kept them in.

I kept my old CF Military Police flap style holster for the Browning HP, and I could put nearly every make of semi auto in that holster.

I suppose that the RCMP wasn't too particular about holsters in those days, but a 4" gun would fit into the oversized holster, too. The only difference would be the amount of empty space in the barrel channel in the bottom.
