I've heard a rumour that the Mounties are switching to S&W M&P 40's. Is this true? I know Peel Region and I think Halton are carrying them. Can anyone tell me who else has them? Just curious.
 
I read on Wikipedia that they use Sig 220`s in .45 for ERT/SERT I couldn`t believe it. I thought the force was 9mm only.
 
The mounties will most likely always stay with the 9mm round. This topic has been discussed at length many times. From what the mounties on this site have said the 5946 will be inservice for another 10 years or more.
 
Some of the senior ERT members still have their Sig P226's. ERT Nation wide was ready to purchase the Sig P226 DAK in 9mm until politics became involved, public works ect.
Regular duty guys and gals have the 5946 and 3953 (in very small numbers)(both 9mm) and will have these for a long time to come.

Saw an RCMP officer yesterday with two holsters, each with something inside, on on the right hip, the other on the left thigh as cross-draw. Anyone know what's up with that, and what's in the cross-draw? By the way, this was in Ottawa.
 
I recently heard from a reliable source that the budget being what it is, if you are an administrator or in a suport function even if a sworn member, you'll be lucky if they haven't asked you to send your pistol back to be re-issued to someone who needs it.
 
Well I`m just going by what it said on Wikipedia about the SIG 220 in .45, I know they`ve been using S&W 5946 for about 11 years now.

Was speaking with an RCMP Officer the other day at work and asked the same question.
She said the left leg holster contains the Tazer , also that the policy will be 9mm and that if change where to come it would take a very long time.
Change in the RCMP is very Political.
Dont know if this has been covered already but thought I would listen to myself type.

The RCMP was one of the last forces to get rid of the .38 so it will be awhile before the upgrade to .40. In the meantime, the RCMP is actively demostrating "gun envy" by discouraging other agencies from acquiring the .40, including CBSA which ended up with the 9mm version of the PX4 Storm instead of the 9mm because it was RCMP "consultants" conducting the weapons evaluation and it is RCMP armourers who maintain them. I'd be surprised if other federal agencies, including Park Wardens and Environment Canada officers all carry 9mm due to RCMP interference as well.
