Anyone know a Smith who is knowledgeable on the Keltec RDB? Mine has decided it wants to double fairly often. While mildly amusing, that's not really what I was after and the last time out it dumped an entire 5-rd mag, which is not exactly safe.

I am the third? owner of this rifle so I'm never gonna get this fixed as a warranty issue. I don't even know where it was originally purchased, other than it was in another province.

Don't mind paying to get it working properly .... just want it to work properly.

I checked out the firing pin and it was not broken but I managed to get a replacement firing pin and that did not solve the issue ... possibly made it worse?

Correct, the KelTec warranty is not transferrable.

From your description (here and in the other thread), it's clearly a fire control problem. Have you tried full disassembly and reassembly? Going that deep is not for everyone, but at this point you've got nothing to lose but your time.

Otherwise, any reasonably competent gunsmith should be able to take care of it. I always recommend the most local "reputable" option you have.

You have asked in 2022. You have no possibility to use warranty as I have suggested?

I am the third? owner and the rifle was originally purchased in another province so there is no way I'm gonna be able to send it back to Keltec.

I have not really considered tearing apart a trigger group I don't understand. I'd worry about screwing it up or not being able to put it back together again.

Think I will ask the guys at Calgary Shooting Centre if they think they can fix it. Just not sure how much experience they have with the RDB.

Wanna get rid of it?

The thought had occurred to me. :(

I really like the RDB, but a rifle that sets rounds off uncontrollably isn't very useful to me. I have an X95, which I don't like as much but at least that thing seems to be reliable.

I haven't even used the RDB that much, so this is kinda disappointing.

Sorry, I was not paying attention to your original post.
Basically you have following options:
- contact Vault Distribution and see if they can fix it for $
- part the rifle and sell parts
- you can also PM me, I will provide you a list of parts Kel-Tec replaced in one of my RDBs that had the same issue. Of course you have to understand that is the list they disclosed, they might have changed more. And no warranty it will help.

The parts list might be worthwhile, but that is predicated upon Keltec or in this case I guess Vault, selling me those parts .... which I suspect they may not.

First thing I'm gonna do is talk to the smith at CSC and see what they think. I suspect Vault could prob do the fix, and I don't actually mind paying for it, but as a distributor, who knows how long they may take to do the work?

Just because your not under warranty, should not stop the importer from providing support, Talk to Vault, they must have people familiar with these guns and parts.

Let us know what they say.... they are basically Keltec's rep in Canada, and I know for sure that if you were in Florida keltec would help you regardless of you being the third owner.

I email'd Vault and they don't do any non-warranty work. :(

Wow, what a load of BS!
Did they have any helpful ideas about where a guy would get support in Canada? Or were they just.... "sucks to be you......"

I'd contact Keltec and ask them why their reps in Canada don't care to support their product beyond the first buyer.... makes the re-sale market and value go way down.

I just did and they don't do non-warranty work. I was given a recommendation for a smith to send it to.

My experience with Vault is mixed. On one occasion they were very accommodating, selling me main spring I managed to destroy (my fault, I like to dissect my guns), for the used RDB I had. That was couple of years ago. My experience with IRG warranty was smooth, but understandably time consuming with shipping between ON, AB and FL.

@OP, I don't think a smith will help, you need a set of new parts, probably revised versions of them (or combination of them that would be able to fix the issue specifically in your revision of RDB) and this is the info KT doesn't share, prop because of liability they prefer their guns serviced by them or authorized distributors. I think RDB is one of few guns I bought brand new, specifically for the reason of warranty.
