I start my first batch of 38 special,with a new bullets hbwc 148 gn copper not lead. Its the first time i use that kind of bullets. At first look i was impressed by how deep it goes into the case! I make 3rds for testing, but no one of these fit properly into my dillon gauge, i also check in the chamber of my revolver same results!:mad:

For those who uses this bullets tell me your best receipt for loading it,and if you very appreciated these one!

Just back off a little bit on the crimper.

A couple of tests.

1. Try chambering a sized but unloaded case.

If it won't fit into the chamber, you need to work on your sizing process.

If it fits into the chamber, you know it's probably something to do with the bullet, so...


2. Load a sized case with just the bullet, without crimping at all. Seat it, say, half-way.

If it will fit in the chamber, try seating it all the way, without any crimp. (If it's an HBWC, may I presume you're shooting paper with it, and the loads are pretty mild? If that's the case, you probably don't need to crimp.)

If it won't fit in the chamber, check the bullet diameter.
 
I find my mistake,,,,,newbie error, too much expanding case!!!! I reduce expanding and the rounds fit perfectly in the gage and also on the revolver chamber's. Thanks for your help. If somebody have a good suggest loads for that 148 gn hbwc using titegroup or bulleyes,your best receipt are welcome!
 
This is stretching my memory a bit, but it seems to me that 2.7 grs of Bullseye or 3.7 grs of Unique were considered the most accurate loads for a .38 special with a 148 gr wadcutter. The bullet diameter must match the chamber throat diameter for best accuracy.

With respect to expanding the cases, your accuracy and case life will improve if you expand just enough to allow the heal of the bullet to sit on the inside edge of the case mouth. This will allow the bullet to enter the case straight without canting and without shaving lead from the bullet, and it will not as quickly work harden the case mouth which will lead to premature cracking.
 
"...loads for that 148 gn hbwc..." 2.5 to 2.8 grains of Bullseye has been the standard target load for 148 grain WC's for eons. A crimp is not necessary nor desired for WC's. Makes no difference if the bullet is an HB or not. HB's do shoot better though.
If you're shooting .38's out of a .357, load .357 brass instead of .38 brass. Makes the lube gunk ring in the cylinder go away.
