looking to pick up a decent RDS for my shotgun (canti slug specifically)

Prior to the sportsman show I was just going to get the bushnell TRS (1)25 I believe it was that I looked at. The idea being I spend a little money and get something decent as opposed to the 35 dollar browning reflex stuff. Im thinking in around 200, if I could Id get the Vortex reflex, but that would take a bite out of my new rifle budget.

The idea is use the red dot on my shotgun, maybe a mosin or sks in the future. Id like to get something decent, I couldnt seem to find any threads on here comparing the models im looking at but that may also be in part to the fact I seem to have a hell of a time maximizing the search function. Right now I dont do any tactical competitions but its definitely on the to do list. The shotgun will be used for hunting primarily, unless I decide to build up something for 3 gun or what have you

that said ed-u-ma-cate me with your opinions. I have hte vortex price list and catalog here as well so the standard stuff is all there. looking for end user comparisons, anything you noticed or liked/disliked about any of the models mention. That said feel free to toss out something I may not have considered in another brand or model!

Much appreciated, take care!

Just bought a Vortex Sparc for $208 out the door. And a month ago bough a Bushnell TRS-25 for $120 all in.

Very happy with both. Great red dots for the money.

TRS-25 comes with a riser, but can be mounted without the riser. 3 moa.

The Vortex Sparc comes with an adjustable riser 3 different heights I believe), a screw on magnifier and a lifetime no questions asked free replacement warranty. 2 moa.

While the Sparc is about double the cost if the TRS-25, you do get more for the money. I think it evens out.

The TRS is a good red dot and the new Sparc has long awaited improvements and a lifetime no questions warranty.

I like flip up caps for my optics and it's not easy to do with the TRS.... the new Sparc comes with flip ups and and improved power button location so it won't get bumped on by mistake.

I have the TRS on my 10/22 and like it. I also had it on my Timberwolf .357 mag carbine. It worked well there too but I like the Timberwoldf better without the optic mounted.

I have a second TRS that I will try to mount on a 45 degree mount on my Benelli MR1.

Overall it is a great optic for the price. I have read concerns here on CGN regarding their seals leaking moisture but I haven't had a issue yet as most of their use has been at the range.

I don't have a Sparc but I do have a Strikefire mounted on my CQA. The first one was defective but it was replaced by One Shot Tacticals scarey good/fast service so the Vortexs have their great service/warranty behind them.

It's a fine red dot on my CQA though I hardly shoot it anymore since I got the Benelli.

I own 2 of the TRS as well as a few Eotechs ..... sold my sparc .
For an inexpensive and reliable RDS you cant beat the TRS .

Good photos showing the slight height difference.

I've actually found the TRS a bit to low on some setups.

Hopefully bushnell will make future TRS's with a bit more protrusion around the lenses so flip up caps will work better.
That improvment and off positions between the power settings of the dot would be great.

Anyone seen the Sparc II. Never like that rubber hood on the Sparc/Strikefire, dirt/grease magnet.

Look like the Sparc II has just rubber buttons instead of entire control section being rubberized.

Also CR2032 (have lots of those batteries) vs. CR2354 (never seen these before).

Did they change the battery type on the new Sparc? The old one does use a less common type but I find the best thing to do is order a bunch of batteries online and stock up.
They are usually better priced and cheap to ship.

I love the TRS-25. They're the best budget RDS going and do better than others costing much more. I preferred it over the Strikefire quite a bit. On a bit of a side note, I decided to try Tasco's BKRD30 RDS after hearing so many positive reviews. For $50 I had my reservations but decided to roll the dice. Bust. In fact, my 10/22 busted it in less than 300 rds. Back to the TRS I think.

2032 is pretty common. I have a fake aimpoint clone that uses 1632s. Not that is hard to find. Found both in bulk at MEC.

Cabelas has the I on sale, almost bought it but now can't decide as I like the II specs better.

Vortex site stated the II uses CR2032 which is used by many of my devices so already have lots of batteries. So nice to use a common battery.

Good to know MEC has them in case need them right away. eBay is cheap but takes forever shipping from China/HK.

thanks for the all input and suggestions!

Im thinking TRS and use the difference to try some different types of ammo and see if I can close in a nice group. That said I'll probably end up trying the Vortex out on something else haha
