re: 9mm for my wife

Many thanks to all the responses and offers I received re: a 9mm for my wife!

She did her homework, reviewed videos and comments on the net and made a choice - the Ruger SR9, by all accounts, the best bang for the buck. She wanted the model with the stainless slide, but was unable to track one down. In fact, she was only able to locate two with the nitric-oxide(?) finish and jumped on one of them. She bought a couple of spare mags as well, and has a case lot of ammo on order to get her started.

The gun comes fully ambi in the controls and is reputed to recoil less than some of the current .380s. She rejected some guns as "butt ugly", and I won't comment on which. Beauty is in the eye of the gun holder.

Next up will be a pink holster and mag pouches, and she's already tracked them down. You gotta love a lady that knows what she wants and goes for it!

She also signed up on "Packing In Pink" and will be buying a pink Blade-Tech holster & mag pouches from them. Not to forget their shirts, caps, etc.

I'll be re-auditing the Black Badge course next month and she wants to join me. I tell ya guys, the girls are taking over .....

I agree, took my wife to the range once and now she insists I take her twice a week and she signed up to get a license and is pestering me with all kinds of ideas about what gun i should buy her first...

If you look up 'SR9 reviews' on your search engine, you'll get several hits.

The gun gets high marks, many calling it the best of the "Tupperware"/polymer framed guns. The ambi safe is really redundant in view of the Glock-like trigger, but covers the lawyer loopholes. Ditto the mag disconnect which is easily removed, allowing the striker to be fired without a mag in place. The gun gets praise for it's slimness and reversible 'mainspring housing'.

Criticisms were directed at the stiffness of the slide stop release and the sharpness of the grasping grooves on the slide. One reviewer took a needle file to his. The guns smooth out considerably after a few hundred rds, like most.

When the SR45 hits the shelves, I think I'll be acquiring my first non-1911 .45; my first "Tupperware" gun.

My SR9 is a very early model and its given ZERO trouble after thousands of rounds. Excellent pistol. The slide stop IS still very stiff, so what. I'm sure your wife (or anybody else) will be happy with it!

Anybody who goes shopping for a 9mm and doesn't look at the SR is some combination of
A) A gun snob
B) underinformed
C) dumb

The early SR9s were reputed to have some kind of issue that resulted in a recall. Whatever it was, it has been addressed in subsequent production runs. The fact that Ruger has dropped some other models and is offering the SR40 and SR45 says things about their faith in the basic platform.

Have you come to any conclusions on bullet weight or the grip shape options - flat or arched? One reviewer said that the gun felt 'right' to his 1911 accustomed hands.

So your calling me dumb eh?

Not everyone likes the SR9.
There are way better and proven guns out there.

Not everyone likes 1911s, not everyone likes Glocks, not everyone likes S&Ws .... your point?

"Way better?" How better? Based on what, other than your opinion?

It took Glock till Gen4 to get it right, assuming they do now. Let's see what the market has to say in a few years.

Based on its history and how many people use it. And it is not just mine opinion, it is alot people's opinion.
And btw, glock had it right way BEFORE gen4. They screwed up the Gen4...obviously you dont know much about glock lol.

And my point is that calling someone dumb because they did not consider the Ruger Sr9 is just....dumb?

Nyah-nyah-nyah ....

Yeah, well my dog can beat the crap out of your dog any day of the week! And that goes for your cat, as well. Opinions are like (_*_)s; everybody has one, it's just not necessary to flaunt it.

Is there's anything 'dumber' than picking fly :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: out of pepper over the best 9mm polymer-framed gun, it's the 9mm vs .45 ACP debate. To the anti-gunners, they're one in the same and they want ALL of them!

Find one you like, get good with it and have fun - while we still can.

Yes your dog will win any day of the week because I do not have a dog or a pet. I am sure if I have a pet and our pet fight each other couple times, we can come to a conclusion who's pet is better. So it is not opinions based on nothing, it is opinions based on facts and history.

And again, it is not just YOUR or MINE opinions on which is a better gun. But it is a BUNCH of people's opinion. Usually when a bunch of people come to the same conclusion about something...it would be the right conclusion.

There is also no point of saying if you did not consider ruger sr9 when buying a 9mm, your dumb.

Yes you can go ahead and enjoy your sr9 and I will go enjoy my guns.

Thanks, Andrew; really appreciate your magnanimity. But, it isn't MY SR9 that we're discussing - it's my wife's.

And if you DID have a dog or cat, my dog would still beat the crap out of yours.

And it wasn't me that said it was "dumb" not to consider a Ruger SR9. Do pay attention; makes it so much easier to carry on a dialogue.
