So while down and out about my CZ 455 accuracy woes I browsed the EE and couldn't believe my eyes when I found this baby for sale! It is my dream rifle and I never thought I'd own one so I didn't hesitate for a second to make it mine. I love the look of the weatherby stocks and they fit me well. Annie 64 action and barrel to boot? Oh boy do we have a winner!

###y factory target grouping 0.39"

I only had a couple hours at the range so my ammo testing was limited to what were the top 4 brands in my Savage. I warmed up shooting and sighting in with various bulk ammos waiting for a cease fire to get clean targets up. It shot bulk as one would expect.

I never cleaned during the shooting session so I shot SK and Lapua ammo which I reckoned had similar enough lubes not to matter too much. I shot three groups of an ammo across this target and then shot 5 groups of it on a separate target. For some reason the groups were better on this one.

Finally have a scope on my Savage again after putting the CZ to rest until further notice, oh what a treat it is to shoot again! Compared to the CZ or Weatherby it is so solid on the bench, never cleaned it since last time and I see no reason to touch a thing!

I notice a tendency for fliers to the left with the Weatherby, not happening with the Savage so it is not the wind. It is definitely not as stable on the rest as the Savage, some wavering going on I can't seem to totally settle down. Might be a bit of a learning curve to calm down those fliers if I'm doing something off in my setup. Nice to see some potential in the new rifle and I'll have some fun figuring out if it's just a little ammo picky or how to improve my form. She's a keeper!

Fore end of stock looks fairly flat,it should ride a bag half decent. What are you shooting from and what optic?I see lots of room for improvement. The rifle seems capable. The SK Std Plus always produces flyers.Work some more groups with the center x or eley and see if you can eliminate the flyers.Try a rock BR and rear leather bag, steady table and at least 24x on a quality optic and you should easily complete the challenge.Nice find!

It is wearing a Sighttron SII 6-24x. I'm not sure what the round count is through it from the original owner it may not have been shot much and still a little rough around the edges. I put 250 rounds through and got a nice chunk of lead out on a patch. I was using the caldwell rock though I think I'll try it with my old sandbag next time. I find the caldwell bag rather firm and the forestock rocks around in it very easily I'd have to look into a different sized front bag for it. Pic of rest setup with the CZ. The Eley batch I have has flier issues as noted with my Savage testing it is either 0.3" or 0.6"-0.7". Waiting on my ammo delivery I've got a few boxes of Midas + and X-act coming my way. I'm sure it's just a matter of figuring out the rest setup and getting used to the rifle to shoot it more consistently. Fliers left at perfect vertical tells me I'm doing something off, random fliers = rifle.

I'm considering a Sightron SII 6-24. Which reticle do you have -- mildot, duplex, or fine crosshairs and dot -- and how is it for target shooting at 50 yards? I know the last mentioned reticle is very fine, but I'm wondering about the others.
I have the bigsky 6-24 duplex, it's fairly thin and decent for target work. I wouldn't hesitate to get another. I'm not a huge fan of the FCH and dot.

I have the duplex and I find it very well suited to 50 yards. If the gun and ammo are up to it no problem shooting in the 0.1"s. It's like the CZ of the scope world you'll need to spend way more cash to step up from it's level of performance.

More range time is never a bad thing! :ar15: I'm now all out of Center-X and Rifle Match. The gun seems to foul up by the end of a box of 50 and lose accuracy. I shot my last 10 Center-X first, 5 groups of SK Standard+ and 5 groups of SK Rifle match on another page. Cleaned, shot Fiocchi but seemed to foul quickly, cleaned again shot Aguila Subsonic. I tried a firm hold on the last group of Aguila and it seemed to respond well so I shot that way for the RWS ammo.

Noticed it was stiffer to close the bolt on the Aguila stuff.

It liked RWS target rifle more than my Savage, it wants to shoot tight groups, I know it!

I liked the sandbag setup vs the caldwell rock, much steadier. I think this rifle was not previously shot much the bolt seems to be smoothing out as I work it. May need a bunch more rounds through to smooth out the barrel and reduce the fouling rate it seems evident it does not like a clean barrel and quickly passes through the accuracy zone as it fouls over the course of a box. More shooting? Oh darn

Looks very promising !

Now you need to stack a couple bricks of SK Std+ and Center-X.

Next time you test ammo, you should clean the barrel between each brand and shot at least 50 rounds of the same ammo.
First 25 shots are to condition the barrel and the last 25 rounds, you start making groups.

As you can see your first try with Center-X and Cladwell Rock, the first groups were bigger and tighten after a couple rounds.

I'm very confident we will see this rifle registered in the *50y 5 groups under 1/2* thread very soon if you do your part !

Got my ammo shipment in and went out to try it. I did an experiment with SK Magazine shooting some groups with unsorted bullets, rim sorted, rim and weight sorted with whatever was lighter than my beam scale setting and rim and weight sorted in spec with the scale. It didn't seem to make a difference but shot pretty well out of this rifle. First ammo of the day on a fresh clean barrel.

New lot of SK + ran a couple wet patches and dry patches before shooting it. Not liking the results.

Again cleaning before each box of ammo on to SK Rifle match slightly better still not good. Same lot I had before but from this shipment.

Old lot of SK+ still not impressed but a couple good groups at the end.

Shot some more SK Magazine to finish with the rifle and did not clean before doing so. Better and more consistent group average than the "better" SK ammo. Hmm. Does it "like" SK magazine more the Standard + or rifle match? Or does it just like to be shot fouled? Why was it better yet with a freshly cleaned (bronze brushed) barrel than just patching?

Stop cleaning it so much .It probably will work better dirty.Just work your way up with the old sk std and then switch after a couple boxes to the new stuff.I have yet to run a patch through my anshutz and it likes it.

"Clean between ammo types" "don't clean so much" what's a guy to do? I'm all out of the previous lot of SK std+ but I got 4 bricks of the new lot in this order. I suppose next time I'll just shoot half a brick of SK+ without cleaning and see what happens. It just seems to shoot best after a bronze brushing for a box of 50 then go for a poop until it gets the brush again.

Every rimfire rifles are different.

Sometimes you can be lucky and find right away what it like the most, shoot clean/dirty and ammo it likes.
Other times, it may takes longer...

I'm confident you will find the right combination.

Nice rifle ! How old ?

It is from the recent production run with Anschutz, don't quote me but I think it was made between 2008-2011. Not sure how old this particular one is. Just into cleaning today and noticed with patches and the bronze brush inserting into the chamber was quite tight but once in a few inches smoothed out and pushed easy out the muzzle. With the brush on the backstroke easy in from the muzzle to about 3-4" from the breech and it tightened up requiring about double force to pull the brush out. With repeated brushing this gradually diminished until the whole barrel felt the same for the entire stroke. Also noted this with my CZ. Both rifles shot best for a box of ammo from a brushed barrel and went for a dump the rest of the range session.

Lots of info on rimfire central reguarding running a leaded in 22 rifle.Too much cleaning removes the lead and most shoot poorer that way.I never over clean my rimfires. At most a dry patch between ammo
