Re-barreling a Prohib and changing to Restricted

How much would it cost to re-barrel a 38 special Astra snub-nose to something 105mm or longer (possibly a heavy barrel PPC) and then convert to restricted? It was my uncles gun and now no one can have it.

this gun is not the thing to spend
that much money on,
You could buy a 6" one for what a
rebarrel job would cost.
Some one with 12-6 can buy the short one,
if you get lucky

They just want to give a good advise and I don't see the point too. It is not just the cost of the gun smith, you will have to pay for verification. The total cost almost can buy a very nice used revolver or even brand new gun.

sell it to someone who can own it, then buy a new one with a longer barrel. it sucks when people convert guns out of the prohib class. One of us wants to end up with all of them when everyone else is dead.
