Hey Guys,

I'm looking at getting an RPR in the future, and I've decided to go with .308.

Hear me out:
At the current time it's easier for me to find .308 ammo, and for cheaper price.
I don't reload, but I know guys who do.
I'm not planning on going 1000+ yards right away.

However, I was thinking that down the road when it comes time to maybe change out the barrel I could get it in 6.5 and have a gunsmith install it. Is this a sensible idea? I'm thinking that Creedmoor will become more and more popular down the road. I just want to know if this is too much hassle for what I want to do. Thanks.

Simple to do, the RPR barrel is easy to swap, JC Custom barrels makes very nice replacement barrels and Gary at Bighorn has head space gauges.

There are lots of RPR match barrels to choose from.. and likely more options as time goes on.

I can offer options from 3 and soon to be 4 barrel manfs. From steel to carbon fibre wrapped, and all the possible aftermarket options you can dream up... and it can be in pretty much any chambering that uses a 308 bolt face and fit in a standard AICS type mag.

If you like the RPR as your base, you can swap barrels to your hearts delight at any time down the road.

BUT the 6.5 CM is growing in popularity at a rate that very good factory ammo is already on the shelves. I recommend reloading as the performance will always be better but there is enough good factory ammo to burn out the barrel.

If you want a 6.5 CM now, get a CM now.

I shoot both the 6.5 CM and the 308... very much like them both. When field shooting, I prefer the 6.5 CM as it is just easier to hit when you don't have flags all over your field.

I'm looking forward to owning an RPR one day. The flexibility that you get for customization is awesome. I may be giving you call in the future.

If you like the features of the RPR, go for it BUT if you are planning to change stuff anyways, maybe figure out what you actually want as a finished product.

I have offered RPR barrels with excellent feedback, but if you are going to change all sorts of parts, maybe starting with a ground up build will be cheaper in the long run.

There are plenty of really good actions for not much money.... then add the chassis you want and barrel to suit. There are also many ways to get to a precision repeater type rifle without spending alot of money... or spending alot of money :)

Entirely up to you.

Just a thought.. send me a PM or email if you have more questions. If you want to see what a rebarreled RPR can do, please find me on facebook Mystic Precision inc.

Yes, a 1/4 MOA RPR is possible.
