I have a 700 SPS tactical in .308 that will be redundant once my ATRS custom arrives in the new year. I plan to change it to another caliber, but can't settle on which one. It will be used for punching holes in paper.
I have narrowed it down to the following:
.243 Win
.260 Rem
6.5x47 Lapua
I've started to look into the differences, pros, cons etc, but wouldn't mind hearing some folks experiences with those rounds.

i went threw this same debate on my current build, ending up goin for a magnum round to fill gaps in my safe

what are you thinking for rage it will be shot? this will play a huge factor in your caliber choice.

I already have the donor, no chance to go magnum. Nor do I have the $$$ if I wanted to!

Under 1000yds.

A .260 will have no problem out to a 1000 yards. Low recoil, Lapua makes .260 brass, and again good barrel life. One thing I do when deciding on a chambering is run some numbers through a balistic calculator to get a decient idea of the performance of the round, and then weigh out the pluses and minuses between the each cartridge. Dont just look at trajectory. Time of flight, where the round goes subsonic and down range energy if you plan on hunting with the round.

if going quality brass and components............no real price difference..........

To get the most out of any of the three your going to need good quality dies, decent brass and match bullets, powder volume its going to be in the middle as far as case capacity goes...............

You guys are making a persuasive case. This will require more pondering....

Are there any board sponsors that stock components and dies?

both mystic and prophet river................

think forster shoulder bump bushing competition die set and lapua brass.................105 grain vld bullet................................

I currently have a 260, and have a 260AI on the way. To say I like this chambering is an understatement. I have found the round makes ME look good, which is quite an accomplishment! I have dealt with Hirsch Precision for all my components so far, he has the absolute BEST customer service and very fast shipping too. Prophet River and Mystic are great too, but for some reason I keep going back to Hirsch.

The 6mm br looks great too, I would be very interested to hear your results if you go that way. Good luck!

I have 6BR and you can shoot as many as you want and you still save money. It is not expensive cartridge. Later, I can switch the barrel to 284 Win with 180gr Berger VLD or Hybrid. It comes with the same bolt. You will need to purchase the barrel vise and the action wrench to remove the barrel. Also need go/no gauge.
