I just acquired a sxs shotgun today and when it arrived it had rust in the right chamber around the extractor and little on the outside of the barrel. Can I sand/wire brush it to remove the rust and re-blue myself? Is it hard? I thought I might be able to do the little bit required on the shotgun. It doesn't have to be perfect, just stop it from further rusting.

Try fine steel wool with oil and failing that a scotchbrite pad for the chamber. On the outside fine steel wool and oil with moderation. A good browning or bluing job is a lot of work so avoid that like the plaque if you can. From the sounds of things removing roughness and living with a tarnished area is probably your best bet.
