Take a gun chambered in 41 long colt. (if you know the 41 colt you know that the bullet and bore dia were mismatched) bore dia is about .401. Bullet dia (inside lubed) is .386. The heeled bullet is about .405. What kind of barrel should one be looking for to sleeve the barrel to shoot an inside lubed bullet? Im my research i cant find a common barrel dia that is around the .380 dia and would grab a .386 slug properly.

Its antique status so i wont actually do it (it would kill the value) but i was curious. I have not yet tried the hollow based but have used heeled bullets with ok results...not yet where i want them to be though. I dont like the outside lubed design...either pre-lube and hope nothing sticks to the lube that would wear the bore or carry a jar of lube to the range and dip the bullet before i chamber it. personally i dont like the idea of bullets in my box pre-lubed picking up whatever dirt might be floating around. its fine dipping my bullets at the range but not exactly easy in the back 40.
Im waiting for a set of dies to arrive (should be any day now) and then i can start loading the hollow based slugs and give them a try...who knows, it might just work for me.
