re: Cooey Model 60 & 600 barrel length

Hi Cooey fans, im' starting to get the Cooey Fever, and am looking at either a Model 60 or 600, i want to put a scope on the rifle i buy so i can be ready for gopher season,...anyways i was at the gunshow in Provost today, and was looking at several Model 60 & 600 .22's, i didn't have a tape with me, but the Model 60 had what i believe was a 20 inch. barrel, and the Model 600 a shorter barrel, i took it to be 2 inches shorter, making it 18 inch,..i was suprised, as i always thought that both model 60 & 600 were identical except for the stock.

I have one of each; My model 60 has the long 24" barrel and the model 600 has a 22".

The 600's does look like it has a much shorter barrel, but I think that might be an optical illusion because of the stock.

Thanks 762 Russian, for showing me your 2 Cooey's, that helped clear up what i was wondering about,..im just starting to get to know Cooey .22's

I still want to find one of the 600's with a factory dovetail-groove !....

There's one in that photo. ;)

It is a very fun and interesting hobby to have. Inexpensive too... until you start wanting to refinishing each and every single one of them. Collecting is cheap, turning them into museum pieces gets a bit pricey :D

What do you Cooey fans think about the longer barrel on the Model 60, more accurate than the shorter barreled 600..?, or not any difference.

I can see the 600 much handier in getting in and out of your pickup truck.

I haven't been able to take either out shooting yet since winter hit; haven't been able to cough up the money for a membership yet. Hooray for being a student.

A long barrel doesn't necessarily mean better accuracy though; the 24" barrel can better utilize the hyper-velocity ammunition to accelerate a round. Will hit harder but not necessarily straighter.

I wouldn't see much difference in maneuvering in and out of a truck, though. Three inches extra from butt to muzzle; they're still both long rifles.
