I was cleaning my VZ 58 last night and noticed a small mark at the end of the barrel. Is it possible to re crown how bad before accuracy is affected?

Depends who you talk to. There is an article out there of someone cutting up his rifle to prove crowning is not that important to the average shooter.

I believe every little thing you can eliminate helps. Having said that, to bad you don't live closer because I have a crowning tool.

Is it possible for the chrome lined barrel to crack?
Best picture I can get its on bottom the barrel I know I never hit it and am always careful when cleaning.

I'm no gunsmith, but I have cut & re-crowned a Russian SKS, using a Manson kit for the re-crowning. The directions warned against using the tooling if the barrel is chrome-lined.

There are all sorts of youtube videos with guys re-crowning with a ball-shaped grinding wheel and valve grinding compound. That has got to be effective, chrome or no chrome. For that, I would think a slow & steady approach wins the race.

Brass 1/4 inch bolt face / end , round with X in centre works best , , Valve lapping compound , 0000 steel wool , drill , work 15 sec add more compound , continue till new crown is nice and even , check with bright light and magnifying glass look at rifling , even all the way around and smooth .

Note 2 brass bolts is best as the first one will wear down and develop a point in the centre , jewellers rouge can be used on the 0000 wool to make a nice smooth bright crown .

Works GREAT on SKS and improves accuracy if done right .
