I am looking to buy a new Kreiger 30-06 barrel, for my H&R M1..the issue M1 Barrel was a 1-10 twist,..but is also available in 1-12 and 1-14 twist...what is the advantage in 1-12 and 1-14 twist as opposed to the standard issue 1-14 twist:runaway:

You should see higher velocities with the slower twists, but they will not stabilize heavier bullets very well. Considering that your Garand should never really see heavier bullets, the 1-12 or 1-14 may be fine.

From the Shilen Rifles website:

.308
- 8" for bullets heavier than 220gr.
- 10" for bullets up to 220gr.
- 12" for bullets up to 170gr.
- 13"* Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 14"* for bullets up to 168gr.
- 15"* for bullets up to 150gr.
- 17"* for bullets up to 125 gr.

Most .308 bore precision rifles are in 1-10 twist if that means anything for you.

slightly higher velocities and the bullets tend to be more accurate. In bolt actions anyway. Some say pressures are a little lower but I doubt it. If you get a 1-14 barrel, 150 grain bullets will probably be max weight and length that can be used.

"...standard issue 1-14 twist..." 1 in 10. Typos are tolerated. snicker.
These guys are Kreiger's Canadian distributor. $375Cdn plus installation. Add the W's. .riflebarrels.ca/
