Goodmorning,

I have been searching for a leather jerkin for quite awhile. I have stumbled accross a site called replicaters.com out of India. They will make just about anything out there according to them. So before I wander off and drop my small fortune, has anyone used this company and if not does anyone know where there is a stash of British army jerkins kicking around.:canadaFlag:

w w w. whatpriceglory . com

This vendor has repro jerkins for 85$US. He is reliable and great to deal with. Shipping would probably be cheaper than India.

The Replicaters site keeps giving me "404' errors when I try to look at products.
Perhaps a bad sign?

Definately try Jerry at What Price Glory. I second what 98k says. He is good to deal with. Jerkins are generally pretty easy to come by. The early 1960's type are fairly common in bigger sizes. They are made from the hide of the Nauga but look the part.
A good Canadian source is Michel Perrier Militaria in Quebec. He only sells original stuff but comes up with some good items.

Avoid Replicators like the plague, most of the photos they used have been stolen from other sites. A fellow from my WW1 German unit has had several of his photos stolen by them. I have a Jerkin from What Price Glory and I like it.

....'Not sure if they still have them, but "I.M.A" (International Military Antiques ) in the 'States had some for sale less than a year ago. Smaller sizes if I remember correctly. I THINK they were originals.... David K. ....

"...Smaller sizes..." That's all there ever seems to be.
Making a jerkin isn't difficult. It's just a longish vest. The cost will depend on the price of the leather. Mine cost me a small fortune, but only because I bought a moose hide. Lined it with melton cloth(adds warmth and keeps the wee bits of leather off your shirt). Needed a belt to move the weight from my shoulders to my hips. Button holes reinforced with light leather.
Whatpriceglory wants $85US, but they list "adult" sizes. Large, XLarge and XXLarge. 44, 48 and 52 chest sizes. They will ship to Canada via USPS or Fedex.

Am I missing something? You live in Canada and are wishing for it to get COLD?

Now I could understand that down here as it's going to be 102F today!;)

if I had it my way

Not only do I live in Canada I live pretty well in the middle of nowhere, if I had it my way yes it would be permanently -5 with heavy frost, up this way its either cold or hot with bugs prefer the cold, to many years in the dark continent have changed my thoughts on weather. :canadaFlag:

Hold it...thats not the middle of nowhere. Nowhere is a bit south. BTW, -5 is shirt sleeve weather for Albertans...especially southern Albertans.:D
Jerry is really good to deal with. Glad to see you got the Jerkin...I have seen one of these and they are nice.
I have a bunch of good links to repro dealers...having dealt with a few on US repro uniforms and equipment.
SM Wholesale makes about the best stuff around though it is very expensive. I have a pair of their double buckle combat boots, absolutely fantastic.
WWII Impressions is also very high quality, most of my uniform stuff is from them. Their shirts/trousers are virtually indistinguishable from the originals.
At The Front has OK stuff, especially web gear, the guy is a bit of turd but reasonable if you catch at the right time. Their clothing leaves a bit to be desired...light weight in general. Excellent quality web gear, and very authentic.
I have some of What Price Glory's web gear...good servicable stuff...he has a hell of good selection of gear really unusaul stuff as well.
Not many guys are doing US impressions, I have put together a complete 88th division group of a soldier serving in the Italian campaign.
Keep on searching for more.
Cheers
