Hello,

I know that you technically aren't supposed to sell reloading ammunition.

But do people trade it often for other equipment?

TIA

I will never fire a reload that I didn't make myself. I've been caught by surprise by someone else's reloads, fortunately it was their gun as well.
The gun didn't blow up but it was still nasty.

Yeah that's my narrow knowledge is that the firearm might explode with reloads that could be even slightly off. Almost everything is down to a fine detail

But if I took someone else's ammo and put it in my rifle and squeezed the trigger that onus should be on me, shouldn't it?

If I was to eat a chicken from someone and they say"hey bud" not perfect, she might be poisonous . Well I was warned. XD

I shoot IPSC and we find a lot of live rounds on the range after a match. I will not fire pick ups off the range. I will however pick them up pull the lead dumpt the powder then reload with a known charge.

I'm not reloading for others and won't fire unknown reloads but where does it say you are not allowed to give away reloads?

Could not find this in the part 14 of the explosives act https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2013-211/page-21.html#docCont
The following is under equipment exchange rules. See item 3. I'm assuming the OP is referring to trading/selling reloads on the EE.

DISALLOWED ITEMS IN EQUIPMENT EXCHANGE

  1. NO "knock-offs" with infringement of copyrighted wordings or markings in any forms;
  2. NO Illegal, stolen or questionable items;
  3. NO Fully assembled non-commercially produced ammunition,tobacco, cannabis, alcohol and any controlled substances

I think OP means in general, not specifically in the EE here.

I get the liability part, my question was "where did you get the information" that it is not allowed to give away reloads as I have never read that somewhere afaik.
No law, but you may still be legally responsible for damage or injuries..

Well if you cannot sell it because of liability. Then giving or trading still holds the same liability. That is why you pull it or sell it for components that needs to be broken down. With it in writing..

This is the same government that my wife that makes a wash off bath and beauty product. Has to register her recipe with health Canada. As someone may get a skin irritation. When someone can smoke and not follow health protocols, in their unsanitary kitchen. Bake and sell baked goods. Also no peanut warnings or allergy warnings. That can kill someone.

If I reload for anyone else, I check 3 times and limit the ammo to pretty low pressures. When I was about 20, I accidentally did a couple shells with 50 ish grains of 3031 instead of 4831. Blew me off the shooting bench. Amazing lesson to be learned.

I will reload for a friend, no charge but they must buy the dies, powder primers and other components. In doing so it removes all liability as they have been proven to be aware of all dangers and have participated in the process. Subsequently I keep any remaining powder and primers ect. I also require them to participate in the load development process as I use their firearm to create a true custom load. It's what friends do for each other in my world... Cheers
P.S. I've received several calls this hunting season from friends in the field thanking me for the one shot and drop harvests.
