Re-loading 30.06 and 30.30

Thanks for the further info, particularly on the Powder selection.

A further query on trimming the cartridges.

I would be starting with brass that I have shot once myself already.

Do the cartridges need trimming every time or is this something that only becomes an issue on subsequent re-sue.

Get yourself a digital readout micrometer. Your brass stretches after each firing, how much is determined by the power factor. Since you will be pushing almost twice the powder in 30-06, they will stretch further/faster. All the steps in inspecting and prepping brass is the tedious but safety aspect of reloading.

Most of the powders people are listing are very common, usable in multiple calibers, and easily resold if they fizzle for your purposes. For example 3031 is a good fastish rifle powder good in many small calibers, the 30/30, and 45/70. The 4350 is great for many common rifle calibers....308 family, 3006 family, and even smaller projectile in magnums》》》another common one, 4831 is a good speed/slower powder for when cases become magnum or larger projectile.

Someone mentioned reloading books. Good safety reminders(for us all), step by step instructions, and caliber recipes. May i suggest that they are all good, even 20-30+ year old ones. Nowadays, everyone wants to print loads only for their components. Lee doesnt make projectiles, or own a powder company. Start low, work up in .3-.5 gr increments.....loading 5 or 10 of each》》》》did you think it was going to be cheaper?

Anyways, more knowledgeable guys here than me, Ganderite, Dave(eagleeye) who has posted in this thread.
